I love the comments justifying the actions of the district throwing people in jail for expired tags. This is why we have a ticketing system, I guess cruel and *unusual* punishment means nothing....

DC continues to be a miserable and backwards city.

Things are crazy in DC. My co-worker moved to DC 2 weeks ago and last week was pretty much getting harassed because he still has MD tags.

That's a big problem I as a potential (keyword potential) District resident. I don't plan to get rid of my car and the District over zealous ticketing system is a definite deterrent. Jails costs money and throwing someone in jail over something small that should only require a ticket if not just a simple warning is just...asinine.

People should complain. People make a ruckus NOT vacate the city. DC will go back to being the murder capital if all the noise makers move back to the burbs.

So yes DC does continue to be a little backwards.

Please note that I say this as someone who has a lot of love for DC. The good outweighs the bad but let's not pretend there aren't problems to be solved.

Good post. It's not about DC or MD, it's about justifying foolish behavior by law enforcement. If they were executing people, we would still have folks come out and say: "well that's the punishment for the crime". That's my frustration with DC....people claim to love the city, yet they let any b.s. Fly. There is no argument that this behavior is ridiculous, and trying to justify it with a blind co-sign is even more lame. Take some pride in our city and fight this stupidity.

Same as people getting arrested for dancing in the Jefferson memorial.....pure hypocrisy.

P.s. Instead of posting i-95 maybe we should post highways in China, because that's exactly where this behavior belongs.

What is silly are statements like this:

Dc continues to be a miserable and backwards city.If you feel that way, hit the road. The world's a big place and nobody is making you live here. Every city has laws on the books that need to be rewritten. DC's better than most. Lobbying to fix laws that make no sense is fine.

Just so you know, there wasn't a single comment justifying throwing people in jail for expired tags.
