Sunset time is finally starting to get later and later until late June though sunrise too is still getting later until early January I'm not too concerned about sunrise hour though, since, most of the year (until around late May), it's usually dark anyway when I leave home in the morning.
I was surprised to know it is the southernmost. I always thought Punta Arenas, Chile was the southernmost till I discovered Ushuaia. That's one part of the world I'd love to visit. I also really want to visit Chubut and Santa Cruz provinces
Río Grande, Argentina, is also more "southern" than Punta Arenas, and it has nearly 50,000 inhabitants.
Presumably this is the shortest day of the year here today, though it's not the shortest day of the year for me as on Friday I'm going back home to 8:26 - 15:50 (7h24).
I don't like it when the day lenght begins to reverse, be it after the winter or summer solstice. However it isn't really noticeable before late January / early February.
Today was pretty rare in that it stayed clear! We weren't cheated out of our civil twilight as we normally are in the winter by cloud cover! The actual solstice was just a few minutes over an hour ago.
