Yesterday felt great. So much more pleasant to be outside.

I hope that things don't shift east. Where the southeast ridge is located at this week is perfect.

Going in to our January thaw this week. Made it to 37 today and the icicles are dropping like flies off the house. Suppose to stay in upper 30's all week for day time highs.

Current temps in the area. Before the warmup. I cant believe Im still hearing people out there hype the cold coming. You cant change the pattern in 1 week.

We will not get a persistant cold until I see things differently. We'll have cold "shots" but nothing consistant. Enjoy the warm and seasonable weather this month

Warming up here, and they had a rescue on the bay by Green Bay, ice separated! When will people learn? Coast Guard got there with air boats! Everyone was safe, no one went in the water. The bay is off Lake Michigan, does freeze but common sense should prevail with the lack of extreme cold, winds were strong, it was pushing the ice and men out to the open bay.

Aren't "cold shots" the kind of winter we normally get?

I mean here we average 23 days in the three winter months with a high temp above 50F, and 14 days with max temp 32F or lower. Seems like more warm fronts than cold fronts.

What happened with the stratospheric warming you were posting about?

The warmer anomalies are nowhere near U.S. Change of heart by the models. China is screaming Ice Age Is Coming while U.S continues its warm streak. Soon the conspiracy theories will surface.
Russia had brutal winter 2 yrs ago, Europe last year, now Asia this year.

I wonder how the global temps look if you eliminate U.S data.

Yup.. thats pretty much all we get lately. Just a few days and back out. Nothing persistant.

If we had the setup of this Summer and Fall specifically June and November we would be frozen and snowy for weeks on end.

I'm looking for a few things for that to happen but time is running out now.

Dont get me wrong... we will see snow in the east again but if you're looking for brutal cold for days on end, forget it for now.

Don't forget about here in the winter of 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 we had brutal winters. I think Charleston, SC had a top five coldest winter, and in Miami Iguanas were falling out of the trees dead from the cold. Many pythons in the Everglades (not native) were killed.
