Spring: 14 days
June: 26/30
July: 31/31
August 25/31
September 14/16 (so far up to 16th)

110 days above 68F/20C
31 days above 77F/25C

Could get around 130 this year.. next 7 days look nailed on for 23C-26C, and it seems we will have another mild autumn

122 so far. Another 15-20 is likely, given previous years. Lowest in August (only 28) compared to the previous six years, which were all 30 or 31. Otherwise, it's been mostly about average.

We're closer than I expected. Your summer must last long nearly as long as here, just not as hot but warm enough for 68°F+ days.

We had 6 days in April, 17 days in May, 29 in June. Average max passes 68°F just before mid May and still continues to go up fast for another month.

I was thinking similarly. I think the average for my location is around 115-120 days/year IIRC so we will not be that much above average if we get 15-20 more.

I guess the reason is that we cool down more slowly than you despite taking longer to warm up, our average passes 68F in late May/early June. Most Octobers see at least a few 20C temperatures, but after 20th October they are a rarity.

The comment you make about us being warm enough yet not hot is also true. This September we have an absolute max so far of only 23.6C, our highest max this year was just 30.3C in July which is also low compared to average here. I find that interesting as we have recorded 31 days above 25C this year, so it shows just how uniform our temperatures have been.. the pattern of this year really.

we've had 82 days reaching 25°C and above, somewhat below average. So because our summer temperatures are mostly stable, and the period where we average from 20-25°C is short, we get relatively few days 20-25°C.

In my ideal climate the number of days in that range would be about the same as the 25°C + days.

Thanks for showing me the errors of my ways!

I have looked at the stats for Solent MRSC & up to todays date it has the following:

20C+
May 3 days
June 22 days
July 28 days
August 19 days
September 16 days

Total= 88 days

25C+
June 2 days
July 13 days

Total= 15 days

30C+
July 1 day (though 1 day reached 29.9C, another 29.7C & 2 other days were over 29C)

Total= 1 day

I've found a link for the number of 25C+ days at Heathrow on average, though I don't think 20C+ data is available:

1951-1980: 15.2
1961-1990: 18.8
1971-2000: 23.4
1981-2010: 26.4

Climatology details

I tried to find Bingley's data on the same site but don't know which code number the site uses for it! I found Bradford though and it gets 6.3, which I can believe.

I've heard it said that Heathrow's warming is boosted artificially by increased traffic at the airport, but Hampstead shows a similar upward trend:

1951-1980: 8.8
1961-1990: 11.1
1971-1980: 13.8
1981-2010: 17.0

1960's and 70's summers ('part from 75-76) were pure suckage in the UK and it shows on the above stats. Hope we aren't about to go into another phase like that!

Wow that is a sharp increase..

Seeing as St James' Park probably has a higher number than that as it is in the UHI and records higher temperatures than Heathrow (Heathrow only reached 30.3C this year, compared to other London stations recording slightly higher, and Gravesend just outside of London reaching 32.3C) then I don't think it is due to increased air traffic.. I live about 5 miles from Heathrow and certainly we see the same temperatures pretty much that Heathrow does, yet we are way too far away to feel the effect of 'increased traffic'

Hmm, evidence of global warming?
Have they got averages for above 30degrees?
