I'd rather see more outside when I walk. I'd rather have late afternoon daylight in general, I don't like coming home in the dark.

Long hikes aren't harder "because" of the time change. It's because the daylight is shorter. Same amount of time before and after the time change. Just have to get up and start earlier.
Well, you can get ready and even drive to the trailhead in the dark. Starting a hike at sunrise usually means waking up at least 1.5 hours before sunrise. It's easier to make full use of daylight if sunrise is 7:15 am than 6:15 am. Unless you're on a really early sleep scheduel.

I know you like cold, but do you actually view the end of a growing season as a good thing? You get tired of seeing plants growing?

Not necessarily, but it's representative of the fact that the season is changing. Autumn is my favorite time of the year and now it's going into full gear.

The best part is that I can now go outside without getting attacked by a swarm of bugs.

As a Floridian who was just outside, and was attacked by bugs, I am jealous. I am so upset I am going to go lay on the beach and grumble.
