most common trees in Germany are spruce (mostly at higher elevations), pine, beech and oak.
Beeches are normally the most competitive trees in our climate.

Same here, across southern England the most common trees are beech, oak, ash, linden lime, cherry, pine, lombardy poplar, sycamore, plane.

Elm used to be common, but most were killed by disease.
