September 7, 2019

One of my favorite farms in Connecticut.

1,100 acres of scenic farmland

Inside the Apple crops. Hill in the backdrop. Deceiving drop in front

Mmmmm. Peach crop looked great this year. Last yr (or the yr before) there was none thanks to a late freeze in April.

Apples crop looked great too. Honey Crisps were ready.

Sky and temps were perfect! Started off in the chilly 50s but 60s came with the sun rising higher. Dry day

Pears were ready too. Asian types I didn't get a picture of. They are smaller and round. These kinds are the typical Pears around here.

Pumpkin Patch. See anything?

September 8th morning.

Yesterday evening, a bike ride around the town.

Yellow tassels on the birch.

As our season comes to an end here...I been picking a ton of Cherry tomatoes and Peppers.

The Cherry tomatoes are called Rapunzel. High yielding and tastes great! Sweet but not super sweet. And small enough to pick and eat as a snack. Mmmmm.

September 2, 2019 Harvest

Peppers. Great year considering CT doesn't have a long hot season.
See below what I am doing with them.. But first lets go over a couple of plants..

This one is called Pusa Juwala. Awesome looking and high producing. Not super hot but not sweet.

This is called SJI Rainforest. Cool canopy with small pear shaped peppers.

This one is called Orange Tea Pot. Very Hot!

This one is Naga Jaloki. Purple color but will turn red if left too long.

This one has a WOW factor on both the look of it and the heat from it. It's called Dragon's Spawn.

This is the bite I took and I was sweating and couldn't handle it. Wont be trying it again.

Spoiler

Quick look at my Tomato Jungle. Surprised still green in September.

So........... Here's what I "was" doing with the peppers... Hanging them to dry to make pepper flakes..

One problem.... It stays too humid inside and so a few of them (thicker skinned) were turning black or molding up. So I had to abandon the hanging idea.

So I bought a dehydrator... Inside here are 4 trays I filled with peppers. See below. This thing has a set temp of 175° and vents all the moisture out with a fan. Set it and leave it for a couple hours. Super easy and quicker

The trays...

WOW! Awesome! You should take same shot every year on same day to see if there is a difference in color and/or timing.

Palms in Connecticut? This is at Nielsen's Florist & Garden Center in Darien, CT on RT 1

End of season. Having some summer like days but hot peppers don't like the 40s/50s at night and the low dewpoints. (dry air)

Couple of them are still producing blooms! But no time to produce and ripen.

You can see the tomatoes in the back also at the end of season.

Peekaboo I see you.

I have 2 Pin Oaks producing acorns, they love it

Ready for the Polar Vortex.

Lot's of lifting to do.
