You lived in Austin, which has a similar climate to South Georgia, which is within 500 miles of Florida. How much were you paid to live there?
Yup the reason for that comment is because I lived in a hot climate like Austin and hated it. And my stipend in Austin was indeed quite a bit higher than it is now in NYC: about 1.25 times as much! Which is a lot because the COL here is a lot higher, so in practicality that translates to ~1.5 times as much living money (though admittedly, there were a couple other factors than climate in moving).
Unrelated tidbit: in my previous comment, CA refers to Central America, not California (though most of California is quite bad too).
No it’s not. Coastal Miami has warmer lows than anywhere on the gulf
Not my lows. I am sure most of the year it has me beat but not every morning in the summer when i have a west wind. I have many days with lows higher than 78f in the summer.
^I'm saying that the "most of the world" argument is nonsensical when talking about climate preferences, because I can twist the logic in favor of the mid-to-high latitudes (by measuring in terms of economy, resources, quality of life) just as easily as you can twist it in favor of the tropics (by measuring in terms of population).
@LKJ If by "he" you mean me, you are absolutely right. You couldn't pay me to go anywhere within a 500 mile radius of the state of Florida (especially the southern part) during the summer months. Regardless of your fictitious west windflow or not, the place is absolutely and unequivocally appalling; definitely the worst on this continent excluding portions of Mexico and CA.
With a warming planet it will just see higher dew points and higher temps. Hope it is bad enough to make everyone move out of the state.
Bridgeport's lowest was 16° on December 19th. It's 16° now.
Danbury's lowest was 10° on December 20th. It's 7° now.
Hartford lowest was 8° back on December 8th. 11° now
Caribou's low was -14°, currently at -15°
Portland's low was 3°, currently at 0°
Atlantic City's low was 18°, currently 17°
Philly's low was 19°, At 20° right now
Current temps and upper heights to understand why the south is cold this morning. Looks like a nice positive tilted trough digging down there with temps at 5000' below freezing down to the gulf coast.
Follow the upper flow.
Above normal west of the Mississippi. Below normal east of there.
North flow over Gulf states. In the 20s down to the coast. Immediate coast in the 30s.
17f this morning, high today is 36 and sunny. Dew points are running around 10. Forecast for the next couple days is messy with a mixture of sleet, snow, and ice. Gotta stock up my wood inside.
