If you like cold weather, it looks like Western Canada is going to be the place to be. The Siberian Express leaves tomorrow and arrives in BC and Alberta Thursday. Check the tweet for an animation.

GFS looks slightly less torchy for the rest of the month, but still above average for most of the southern 2/3 of the US east of the Rockies.

A bit of wintry precip in northwest Louisiana this morning! No accumulation expected. Light showers here and 41F.

Looks like December last year the Southeast was pretty normal after all.
Southeast hasn't been really below normal since 2010.
2003, 2004, 2005 had a normal-below Decembers
2017 was a decent December here. We had a couple of inches of accumulating snow Dec 8 that year. Did have some warm periods to offset the cold a bit including the week before Christmas, but the final week of the month was pretty chilly.

Looks like the only below average Decembers over the past after 2013 were '17 and '20.

Yep. The atmosphere is stuck, spinning its wheels, unable to get moving.

Extreme temperature gradient setting up over the northern Plains/Prairie Provinces, and areas to the south over the next 7-10 days. The storm track could produce some accumulating snow in this corridor, so the possibilities for the jet stream to shift southward due to colder realized temperatures over the snow field there is starting to increase.
