It wasn't snowing an hour ago but it's coming down heavy now.

I know i am. No cold yet this winter or fall. But not 80's also for me but mid 80's inland today. Only had one day with highs in the 50's and should have had 8 by now.

That's what made them melt circles on the roof as it sucked the snow up.

I think the weather is about to flip a switch, in the January 13-15 period, to colder and snowier.

It's going to turn colder but a major I-95 snowstorms is far from certain.

The initial push of the cold air is just too far west. The storms are just maturing too early and veering to the north. Even the current storm looks to be a bust for Chicago.

When the cold air finally goes east in the week to come there's no organized energy available as the atmosphere looks to be relaxing. The 16-17th storm has evaporated and the storm on the 20th is just in Fantasyland.

Perhaps the atmosphere will reload for February but if recent patterns hold true then the West will be the target once more during the next go round.

I spoke too soon. Atmosphere moistened up quite a bit this evening and I got hit with a quick unexpected 1 inch of rain between 7:30-8 PM. Storms looked heavily localized, though. It wasn't a straight line like Tuesday.

I said snowier. I never said “major snowstorm.” I would like snow but it takes too many things going right to happen often.

Something I've noticed about this upcoming arctic blast: It is very shallow. What do I mean by this?

Surface temps that are well below freezing, yet air aloft that is at or even sometimes above freezing. Just look at the image I have attached. It's like a massive cold air dam in the central US. I should also point out that the Christmas 2022 cold blast had similar traits.
