Sure looks like what we in Missouri call a tornado.

I'll be taking the snowfall measurement when the switch over to rain happens in an hour or so, but it definitely looks like a bigger amount than the Jan 9 system.

I did not have the chance to comment this yesterday. But yesterday, January 12, was the defining day for both Houston George Bush Airport and Gainesville Airport performing just how I wanted.

Lasting to and past January 12 means Houston George Bush Airport has now beat their January 11 2016 record for the all time latest first frost. And, given that January 28 last frost, lasting to and past January 12 means Gainesville Airport has now BEATEN the 2021 record for longest-ever frost-free season of 347 days. Both of which I've commented plenty about before and now they are being totally vindicated.

For Houston George Bush Airport, the morning of January 15 is forecast for 0C which may or may not underperform, and January 16 -7C.
Certainly their new record latest first frost is going to be one of those 2 days, meaning as I predicted earlier a longest-ever frost-free season 1 1/2 months over the previous record.

Likewise for Gainesville Airport, the morning of January 17 is forecast for 1C and January 18 is forecast for -1C.
As great as a January 17 first frost would be, for nostalgia reasons I really hope they can last until January 18 for more reasons than merely tying the record latest first frost. That is a very special day for me weatherwise (and it's not just the January 18 2022 first frost for Gainesville Airport etc, as unfortunate as the event was I have a lot of nostalgia for monitoring the January 18 2018 Arctic blast firsthand), so for a THIRD year to make future nostalgic memories by honoring yet not displacing the previous No. 1 nostalgic memory would put the cherry on top of Gainesville Airport's nonstop great performance.

And Bulloch, if you're reading this, I hope you will get some of the same special weather day nostalgia from days like these that I have from January 18. Nostalgic benchmarks add a lot of fun to Southeast US weather monitoring.

Ongoing blizzard continues for northwest Iowa. Actual temps have fallen well below 0 in some areas, and wind gusts have been reported up to 45MPH.

George Bush Airport actually did hit 32 F this morning, though. So they broke their record... by just 1 day, lol.

Gainesville tying their latest, though, looks likely as the models are now slowing the advancement of that arctic blast by a bit.
