They tried to open a location in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago, a fairly popular neighborhood for 20-something college grads to live out their early-adult Rumshpringa years before transitioning into responsible adults and starting families and stuff. This was even after most of their Illinois college-town locations had closed. I don't know if they were trying to cash in on the locals' college-years nostalgia or something, but needless to say it didn't work out as well as they'd hoped.

I'm guessing this is exactly what they tried to do; I come to find out they also had locations in the even more stereotypical post-collegiate outposts of Lincoln Park and Lakeview. All three of these locations -- and their last Illinois college-town location in DeKalb -- closed at the same time in 2017, which put an end to their run in Illinois.

BITEY, HOW DARE YOU!!!!!

You know darn well we are here to discuss pizza in WISCONSIN, and not those "other people" to the south!!

ahhh you know I am just kidding!!!

Like I said, if you are up here in the West Allis (Milwaukee County) area, go to my favorite spot: Mama Mia's, near S. 85th Street and W. Greenfield Ave.

The owner, who recently passed, Al Fernandez, was from Chicago before coming to Milwaukee some decades ago to start Mama Mia's, I believe with a fellow Chicagoan who was Italian.... The Fernandez children now run it. I have asked them what neighborhood their dad was from. They believe it was the Taylor Street neighborhood (which you can see as well as I can seems to become LESS Italian every year!

As far as Chicago goes, I miss Armand's from Edison Park, but many people seem to love the Pizza Boy that replaced it.

Any recommendations in the Castle Rock / Petenwell area would be welcome as that's the area where one of our recently acquired properties is located. Seemingly the only mom-and-pop pizza joint in the area is Bucky's Pizza in Adams and its online reviews look pretty middling. Was hoping maybe one of the roadside (or lakeside) taverns or supper clubs in the area not otherwise known for its pizza could do better.

Bitey, it would be extremely RARE for me to be up/know much about that area!

I typically only got SOUTH of the Milwaukee area!

I hope you can get at least ONE good recommendation for good pizza from the area you described.

The Petenwell Pub use to have good homemade pizza. Not sure if it still is as good.

Romano's is another choice. At one time the owner was from Chicago. This was around 10 years ago. I believe he no longer owns it. When we drive by it is always busy.

I'm up in the area now. Unfortunately Petenwell Pub closed a couple weeks ago, and I won't get the chance to check out Romano's.

I tried the pizza at Spot in the Woods. It was okay, nothing to go out of one's way for. The pizza sauce tasted like Prego pasta sauce. If they'd used a better sauce it would have been a solid winner, everything else about it was on point.

There is NO good pizza in the Madison area. To the poster that mentioned Aurelio's in Homewood, IL - they supply an Aurelio's in Naples, FL - and it's the best pizza in SWFL.
