Certainly this isn't a surprise, employers have always been biased against applicants based on their age, sex, height, weight, etc.

But the one person profiled for this article was 5'11" and 525 pounds. I have to be honest, I don't think many companies would hire someone that big even if the company was accepting of all other characteristics of an applicant.

https://nypost.com/2017/12/11/most-h...rweight-woman/

Quote:
Jobs site Fairygodboss recently carried out a survey of 500 hiring professionals, who were shown a picture of an overweight woman and asked if they’d consider employing her. Only 15.6 percent of them said that they would. Plus, one in five hiring personnel characterized the woman as “lazy,” and slightly more — 21 percent — called her “unprofessional.”

Well i have a wife that is little on the big side but not much more then me.. But some heavy people have a hard time standing, bending, picking up things from the floor. The list can go on.. Its not because they are bias, its because the job will require some physical work to do. If you cant stand for 8+ hours a day or walk 8 hours without the need of a walmart wheel chair, then your not a fit for that company. I get it some have real medical issues, and some have a real time dealing with real life struggles and eating is their gateway drug.

No surprise with out shallow and superficial and political our society has become. Its pathetic. The only thing that should matter is if the person is qualified or capable of learning at least with a solid work ethic..

All the other shallow BS is considered first of course:

1. Are they the nephew/niece of a some high roller big wig (we don't care if they are ummm... Qualified with work ethic.)
2. Can they make next month's cover of GQ
3. Are they a potential love interest of the hiring manager

Then people get surprised when a company falls flat on its face in the long term. Nothing surprising about it at all. Those of us SANE people can figure it out pretty quickly some corporate dump is heading off a cliff just off brainless decisions being made by management.

Love watching companies that operate like this fall flat on its face and egg is left on their faces. Because they DESERVE IT. They don't deserve to be in business. They're sinking ships

I think there's a difference between 5-11 and 525 lbs, vs. 5-11 and 220 lbs.

Woman or man, it doesn’t matter. The risk of health issues when paying for the medical plan, fitting in the available desk chairs, and other potential problems make someone that heavy too risky. I wouldn’t need to see a photo, just told the person weighs 525 lbs. would tell me enough. I have hired very capable overweight people in the past, but nothing close to that example.

While I definitely think there is weight discrinimation - using the experience of a 500# person may not be indicative of the typical overweight person's experience.

Nice sob story nypost, how about the author demonstrates actual discrimination, as in a quarter ton truck *ahem* I mean man can get hired but the 500+ lbs woman cant...

The "journalists" stopped doing actual "investigating" when they do news now

Funny. After this barrage of complaints....I think it really attractive women that will have a hard time getting hired.

On that note, an obese person in the office would possibly give off a bad vibe.

I just hope my daughter's former boyfriend who dumped her after three years in college won't be hired and will flip burgers. He is about 1/4 ton.
