HMMM? So you can jump from Scotland- to AMERICA - to Spain and build new homes for yourself? You sound like a person of means..When you have access to that kind of money there is no need to be loyal to any nation. You must be one of those "citizens of the world guys" - You have freedom- the kind that only money can buy-- You sure that you are not an American...cos' you sure sound like one of the more successful ones...So what nation would your return to if you were suddenly tossed into paupership?
You know nothing about me. I have studied and worked very hard to be where I am now. I come from a working class family. I am not rich. But it sounds like you have judged me already without even knowing me.
P.S. I only rented in America. Obviously I have a home in Scotland it's my homeland and yes I am building my own home in Spain with my partner and what? It automatically makes me a bad person?
P.S I am female I thought the username would have given that away...SCOTSLASS
South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama? Those states are clustered together in what's called the Deep South. Although I haven't been there, it's not considered a particularly progressive or worldly part of the U.S. (although Atlanta is alright). It's also at the heart of the Bible belt.
How about New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, California, Illinois, Washington state? What's your experience in those places, if any?
New York city, upstate NY, NJ these places weren't as bad. Really enjoyed NYC
Hmm my house in Scotland is constructed of solid stone and is very old (1800s), my house that I am building in Spain is solid brick which is the norm here, but I am not a fan of the majority of the timber frame houses in the states. I've never seen a brick or stone house there - only faux style, but not true form.
Traditional homes in Scotland were made of stand stone too, and general brick they´re solid and will last for years to come.
My house was huge but timber frame in the "snobby" New Hope area of Columbus, MS.
They do exist in older or historic homes in the U.S. More of them in the northeast.
Also, if building a new custom home, some people choose to use concrete walls and surface it with brick, stone, or Hardiplank (concrete with wood grain).
Of course, in places like Florida and the southwest, concrete block is standard with a stucco surface.
I don't doubt that there are brick homes in the US but there are definitely not as many as there are in Scotland or Spain (considering how old these countries are, it is to be expected). I only seen a few period homes too. The house I lived in was brick exterior (show) but timber frame.

Sorry about that- I scanned over your title and in my mind of prejudice I saw SCOTS CLASS....It gave me the mistaken impression you were some burly old man in a kilt jack up on whiskey with mutton grease dripping from your beard- If I would have known you were an industrial female..I would have melted in my shoes- My first wife was Scottish..she was so full of life..So you use the word "partner" which either makes you a modernist or a very tough woman that - well likes partners more than husbands.
No I did not look at you as a bad person- you just sounded a bit over privileged - BUT I do have a younger sister who has lived all over the world and was a builder also...She is a determined and independent female..The work ethic does get you places...I was never big on working to get material stuff...just so much - work....I remember my sister like to build mansions..That she would live in briefly- She was a go getter- in the end she ended up single and living in the servants quarters of some big house ....
Somtimes it takes more than just work to achieve success...like good judgment and the value of things work and money can not buy....

Don´t worry about it, generally us Scots are full of life and pretty strong...
the reason we dislike the U.S. is because you play your music too loud at night, you borrowed some of our tools and didn't return them and when you are out in your yard bent over, your butt crack shows.
Therefore, a legitimate "reason" not to like the U.S. is because it does not have indigenous wild elephants. (There are a lot of elephants in zoos and circuses, but I'm not counting those.)
Philadelphia is not really that well-known outside of the US, probably for the reason you mentioned. When I hear the word Philadelphia I think of cheese before I think of a city, lol (it's a cheese brand here). Las Vegas is famous for the casinos so I think that's why people are more aware of it.
The Chinese city of Chongqing has almost 30 million inhabitants but how many of you are able to point it out on a map?
Really good point. When I think of Philadelphia I think of Tom Hanks

Ah dont get worked up about something stupid like that. If you are a hard worker and have worked for what you got then good for you. I dont think he ment as much offense as the text shows though to be fair.
