It's really hard to narrow it down to just 5 because I love food, but I'd probably say Indian, Italian, Mexican, Japanese, and French are my favorites.
I wonder if anyone here has tastes the real Chinese food. base your judgement on an airport restuarant is purely laughable. In terms of variety and complexity to prepare, there is no cuisine that can beat chinese food. The chinese restuarant in most western countries are crap, except for the genuine ones in Chinatown. and there are more than 1000 different cuisines in Chinese food. Go to a chinese city to experience the real chinese food.
Most foreign restaurants in foreign countries are crap everywhere in the world, because gastronomy is a local and cultural event. So most of the "Italian" restaurants in the world serve the usual unhealthy fare created by Italo-Americans. Most of the Chinese restaurants serve food created by Chinese Americans in California, most of the French restaurants abroad are laughable, just a pantomime...and Spanish restaurants abroad are extremely pathetic and laughable....
Foreign restaurants in alien countries, demoted from local produce and culture, are just like ZOOS.
That's why the only good and authentic food is local food, local gastronomy, local restaurants.
You find some chefs that say....I create French or Spanish food using American ingredients....or I prepare a "American Fusion"....That's crap for the very rich. Rather eat some cholesterol bomb in any American greasy spoon!!!
- Chinese: it's a lot of variety much of which is hard to find outside of China, and definitely not well-represented by the sauce and oil heavy sauce seen in much of the US
- American: this includes the standard Americana plus Creole, Cajun, Southern, New Mexican, Tex-Mex, New England, etc.
- Mexican: pretty much just great
- Italian: not a huge fan of the red sauce, but there's so much more to Italian cooking than that
special mentions: vietnamese, thai, peruvian, west indian, austrian/german, greek, spanish, and french
1. Indian. Or, more accurately, British Indian food, as I haven't been to India itself. My favourite dish is considered Indian, but was in fact invented in Britain - Chicken Tikka Masala.
2. English. A perfect roast beef Sunday dinner. Mmmmmmm.
3. Mexican. I love the spices and flavours.
4. Spanish. Tapas, sea food, paella, Spanish rice.....
5. Italian. I love a big old plate of pasta or lasagne.
