...sitting here in the middle of the Midwest, over a days drive from the ocean, it seems that "the world" out ide of the USA is just something on TV or in books. In ones daily life not really visible (except for all that "Made in China" stuff in the store...or "Product of Chile" or someplace like that for the stuff in the supermarket.
Since you guys favorite excuse is americans are all ignorant i will even provide you with links from europe that says america is number one in universities

America is made of a small super-elite (the "we" you're talking about) and a mass of over-worked simpletons (proud of it too!) who live much worse, in so many ways, than regular Joes in many countries that don't have that "we".
The trick is that the masses are allowed to identify themselves with the "we", and see themselves as part of that "WE".
The system works. Just be a bit more clear on who exactly that "WE" is.

The OP is an American and 9 times out of 10 this question is raised by Americans then we have to hear all this arrogant nationalist talk from every idiot in every country on the planet.
People don't HATE us that is immature thinking and that same immaturity provokes the answers that you hear.
I have spent one third of my life living overseas and the only anti-Americanism I have ever met has been on a political level and not on a personal one. I think most of this bragging is being done by people who have never been anywhere except for a couple of weeks on a guided tour. But many Americans on this thread have expressed very solid ideas and are able to recognize our faults as well as our virtues. These are the kind of people who help their society progress and become more civil.
