It's totally lame for Americans to say that.

If it weren't for America, Europe would be speaking German and praising the fuhrer's image. People now two generations removed from WWII have no understanding of the fact that a sleeping giant awoke, and fought a war on either side of its' shores, and won both of them.

Perhaps if America had taken the lands it had conquered and occupied them to this day, there would be a little more respect for her.

But, no. That is not the way of a freedom-loving nation to act, is it?

Oh god, the typical "if it weren't for us you'd be speaking German".

LOL!

If it weren't for us, the USA wouldn't even exist. It would just be a sparsely populated land of wildlife and native Indian tribes....most likely an improvement!

It's a rather bogus metric. Basically, it measures how "scandinavian" (economically) a country is.

But, it may of course be correct about the placement of US and SK. SK has become quite advanced lately, while US...

And if it weren't for France you'd still be singing God Save The Queen

In my opinion, this is by far the most obnoxious thing an American could ever say to a European.

Where did I brag?? I showed that the difference in quality of life between Norway, Sweden, Swizterland and the US is so small that it's silly to use as a negative against the US.

South Korea, third world? I think you're confused.

You wish America would erode because you're obsessed with envy against the USA. You hate America's place in the world and you pray everyday we weren't the most successful country. Unfortunately for you, reality disagrees with you. Decades ago Japan was supposed to over take the declining USA, now the boggie man is China.

When was that, 1965? South Korea actually has a higher GDP (PPP) per capita than Spain or Italy and it is just behind the EU average and Japan. It's definitely not a developing country.

Germany was beaten by USSR, with some (rather small in percentages) help from Western allies, including US.

US has beaten Japanese navy (while the multimillion strong continental army was erased by USSR) - not bad, but it's just a tiny part of an Axis force.

US and UK betrayed Soviet people by not opening the Second Front back in 1941, as they should have did, and as they promised. Not to say that they are partly responsible for starting WW2.

That's what it did - establishing a massive US influence over the areas.

Try to respect tens of millions people, who really defeated that evil. And they were volunteers.

At least study some real history!

As others have mentioned, this is unbelievably arrogant. It is so common it is bordering on cliche.
