Per Se - I know you don't hear this much anymore, but I knew someone that used this all the time and it still drives me crazy.

is that kinda like "and them," when 'them' can refer to one person or a number of people?

I despise the word "chuckle". There's nothing wrong with the word, technically. I see it in almost every book I read. And yet, it makes me want to grind my teeth.
