I've noticed lately that people have changed the pronunciation of "tour". Instead of pronouncing it "too-wer", it's not pronounced "tore" more commonly.

I expect many world tores will follow.
That might be regional. I find myself trying to remember it's tour n a ment, not torn a ment, likewise with tour. I remember it was a woman from Wisconsin that took me to task for that one, she was right. It's that hard sounding Pittsburgh accent.

What has happened to our educational system?
I think the Internet is the culprit. I knew a guy who was an English professor and whose handwritten letters were flawless. But when he got on the Internet, much of his writing was nearly incomprehensible. And he didn't seem to even care. His students probably taught him their bad writing habits.

From the Washington Post today (online): "She's my boss. I've got a bad attitude that's older than her."

Maybe the standards are becoming more relaxed about using objects with the verb "to be." (Or maybe I'm just an old f-rt.)

Have to admit, I screw that one up from time to time. So, naturally I avoid it.

Do you mean in novels and magazines or on forums?

Dude, forums are the scum at the bottom of the pond. You are lucky on a forum if the post is comprehensible. The poster is lucky if their topic doesn't show up in our writing forum in the topic that makes fun of peoples' bad grammar.

Worry about your own grammar. Ignore the rest. Skip the topics that are incomprehensible.

It's true. But gawd, I wish people would at least learn to write and spell at a 6th grade level. I mean, is it really that hard for people to know the difference between there/their/they're, your/you're, and too/to? Unfortunately, I know the answer.
