Headline for a recent front page article of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
Tallest tower half empty
Realty bust decimated Bank of America Plaza's occupancy rate
Does that mean it started at about 56% occupancy?
In another article, the name of the town in which the events being described took place was misspelled - every single time it was used. The name is a single syllable and spelled exactly the way it is pronounced.
It depends... are you reading it, saying the letters in your head? If so, then it should be
"Just as an FYI..."
Or, are you reading it, spelling out the words in your head?
"Just For Your Information"
Even so, just as a FYI irritates me solely because of the a/an error, since I say the letters.
It's not the a/an that bothers me here... It's just that I don't understand this expression. FYI means For Your Information, and there's no such thing as "a for your information", so using an article doesn't any make sense IMHO (or should I write "as an IMHO"?)

I agree with you on the use of the a/an. I don't think it is needed in most cases.
It doesn't bother me when people use the a/an though. I just live with it.
Sitting here reading this post was weird in itself. I read the letters (and say them in my head) as F Y I; however, whenever I see IMHO I read 'in my humble opinion' and never as just the letters.
I'm sure there are many others that I read like this (either way).
The things you think of while reading this thread...

I wonder if, in their mind, they equate "FYI" as "tip"? Here's a tip for you... Here's an FYI for you?
From an article about educational quality that was posted on the nj.com website:
“It is a privilage to be able to operate a charter school in New Jersey and we must treat it as such,” state Department of Education spokeswoman Barbara Morgan said.
Whether this mistake originated in the state Department of Education, or with the staff of nj.com, it is...ironic...that it appeared in an article regarding the quality of instruction today.

Well, that's probably it, but it still sounds very weird!
