Description: The International Order of EARS (the acronym is a secret, known only to initiates) is a nonprofit, 100 percent volunteer-based organization dedicated to cultivating and perpetuating storytelling as both an art form and as a means of cultural preservation. The Corn Island Storytelling Festival, its largest annual event and one of the largest in the country, strives to achieve harmony between the popularity and marketability of ghost stories and the cultural, historical, and literary aspects of oral and musical presentation. Every year in the fall, storytellers from around the nation and the world gather to keep their craft alive at a number of private charitable events and public gatherings throughout the city.
