Description: Open daily, Kashmir has offered casual Indian dining in a small cottage at the heart of Louisville’s Highlands neighborhood since 1999. Known for its friendly service, the restaurant specializes in the cuisine of northern India, featuring an extensive vegetarian menu in addition to many nonvegetarian items. Appetizers include samosas, pakoras, and tikkas, and they also offer savory lentil soup and lightly sweetened coconut soup. In addition, there’s a variety of soft and flavorful breads—16 in all—to accompany your meal. Tandoori specials, made in charcoal-fired clay ovens, are popular, and they also have a number of kormas, curries, rices, vindaloo, and masala dishes at reasonable prices. Entrees can be prepared mild to very hot to suit your taste. Unusual traditional beverages such as a creamy mango lassi or sweet and spicy masala tea are available, as are Indian brews such as Taj Mahal, Kingfisher, and Flying Horse. On the weekend a variety of dishes can be sampled at the lunch buffet.
