Description: Housed in a 140-year-old building that was once a small hotel in downtown New Albany, the Windsor retains the high ceilings, rich millwork, and ornate ceiling fixtures of another era. In a statement of simple elegance, black cloths drape the tables, which are topped with sleek napkins and single roses in tall bud vases, and the dinner menu showcases the kitchen’s innovative, slightly international take on down-home fare. A modest list of main courses allows the chef to concentrate on the execution of dishes such as pan-roasted beef tenderloin with morel reduction, and duck breast in sassafras brine, and sides include items like potato puree, sautéed summer squash, fettuccini, corn pudding, and the tasty house fries, which are seasoned with rosemary, thyme, sage, garlic, and Parmesan. The Windsor is open seven days a week; however, dinner is generally served only Tuesday through Saturday.
