Description: Housed in downtown Louisville in a structure that started off as two old buildings—the Old Bank of Louisville, designed by James H. Dakin in 1837, and the Myers-Thompson Display Building—Actors Theatre of Louisville was founded in 1964. It took off when Jon Jory, the son of Victor Jory, who played the part of the overseer in Gone with the Wind, was appointed director in 1969, and in 1974 it was officially designated the “State Theater of Kentucky.” Today, the complex contains three performance spaces: the Pamela Brown Theater, the Victor Jory Theater, and the Bingham Theater. Actors Theatre of Louisville shows national favorites and local plays, and has premiered a number of Pulitzer Prize–winning works. Seasonal ticket packages for five plays start for as little as $93, something that has earned ATL one of the highest per capita subscription rates of any American theater company.
