Description: A tour of the beautiful 1894 Howard mansion lets visitors step back in time and get a taste of the era of the great steamboat. Built by renowned steamboat builders, the Howards of Jeffersonville, the redbrick mansion features a grand staircase, original furnishings, brass chandeliers, stained-glass windows, and intricate carvings and details throughout. Master craftsmen from the shipyard fashioned much of the decor in the lavish residence, which is open year-round. Howard-built steamboats included the City of Louisville and the Indiana, in addition to the luxurious J. M. White, and models, photographs, paintings, and other artifacts from the period abound at this unique regional museum. Personal, informative tours are offered Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults; $4 for seniors and $3 for students. Accompanied children under 6 are free.
