Description: These mid-June and Sept pier tournaments are much like the Fishing Rodeo. Pay the $35-per-person entry fee and cast from any pier along the Grand Strand to tempt the tenacious “kings.” The total cash purse is based upon the collected entry fees and is allotted proportionally among the first- through fifth-place winners.

Description: George Russ manages this site. Hague offers yacht service and supplies and storage—wet or dry, covered or uncovered. Located in a wooded half-moon channel just off Mile Marker 368 of the Intracoastal, the marina specializes in boat repairs. Transient dockage is available for $1 per foot per night. Water and electric hookups plus a ship’s store are available. Hague is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily spring through fall, until 5:30 p.m. during the winter months.

Description: Osprey is one of the best-kept marinas you’ll find. It was named Marina of the Year for all of the United States in 2001. All of Osprey’s 96 slips are rented by the year only. It operates at 90 percent capacity year-round. Dry storage is available, as are cable TV, phone, water, and 30- and 50-amp electric hookups. This marina provides a pump-out station as well as gasoline and diesel fuels. Amenities include showers, laundry facilities, Internet connections, and an on-site convenience store and restaurant. Hours run 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Description: Besides running an array of charters from this marina, the owner offers boat dockage for long-term lease. Bathrooms, showers, laundry facilities, 30- and 50-amp power hookups, and a ship’s store are available, as are gasoline and diesel fuel pumps. There is an on-site Grill Restaurant that is open in the summer months. The marina does not allow “live aboards” (where people live on the boat year-round) or Jet Skis. It is open year-round—6 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the summer months and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the winter after Daylight Savings Time ends.

Description: Right on the beach, Downwind Sails rents 14- or 16-foot sailboats and Hobie Cats from Apr 1 through Oct 25. The general price is $40 per hour for the 14-footer and $65 for the 16-footer, but discounts often apply after Labor Day when business slows down. Lessons are highly recommended for novices and run $65 per hour, which includes ½-hour boat rental after the lesson. Downwind is open all summer long from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Downwind Sails is closed during the off-season.
