As a popular German saying goes, “No beer — no party.” The United States can also support this quote — just take a look at the graph below showing beer consumption in the U.S. from 2013 to 2017. As you can see, Americans consumed 2,846,085 million 2.25 gallon cases of beer in 2013. In 2014 the number dipped slightly to 2,843,710 cases. In 2015 and 2016, American beer consumption reached approximately 2,845,892 million cases and 2,834,130 cases respectively. Americans consumed the least beer in 2017, when they drank 2,805,290 cases.

Americans are well-known light beer lovers — it’s the most popular alcoholic beverage in the country. In 2017, light beer accounted for the largest share of beer consumption in the country (43.5 percent). Super premium and premium beer also enjoyed strong popularity, but not nearly as much as the light variety. Craft beer took the third place in 2017 with an 11.1 percent consumption share. In the same year, popular beer accounted for 6.4 percent of consumption while ice beer held a 2.9 percent market share.
