A Voice From The Past: Nightsounds' Bill Pearce

Posted 10-07-2021 at 08:39 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Now and then, I pause on my computer and listen to some old shows, including one which played late at night on the radio for more than twenty-five years. It's a show which hosted a gospel jazz musician who spent many years on Chicago radio and took his show nationwide.

His name is Bill Pearce. He's no longer with us, as he passed away in 2010, not long after his longtime radio show ceased first-time production. Reruns of "Nightsounds" still live on today, both...

More From Lubbock: A Future Lake Close To The City

Posted 10-06-2021 at 08:17 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Just when y'all thought that little jut from the Caprock boundary was worth another look, well, in about twenty years, you might be jet-skiing on it. That's right, everyone. Lubbock may just be getting a brand-new lake, and it's going to go in right off East State Loop 289 just to the southeast of town and west of Buffalo Springs Lake. Planners estimate that it will take approximately seventeen years to complete.

As if the aformentioned Leprino move weren't enough,...

The Lubbock Economy Just Got A Little Bit Cheesy

Posted 10-06-2021 at 07:47 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Lubbock has had its hits. It's had many misses (too many to admit) down through the years. The city just got a new performing arts center, but now, a big company is about to do something very big.

How big?

Denver dairy company Leprino Foods is proposing a 258-acre manufacturing plant east of State Loop 289 and north of 19th Street. It's the city's newest, biggest project they've had, bigger than the failed College Baseball Hall of Fame project that they...

In The Parlance Of The CB Speak, That's A Big 10-4, Good Buddy

Posted 10-04-2021 at 11:33 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

That calendar just got convenient today, did it not?

What have we here? October 4. It's the tenth month, so today happens be 10-4. Guess we've got to bring in our gear-jamming friends on our nation's freeways, doing the things they always do. I'll just break out my imaginary CB radio and just commemorate this 10-4 day.

That's a big 10-4, good buddy.

What's your 20? Come on.

Oh, it's October 4, with the
