Warpt... Beautiful!!!

Also really like the chain link fence. I too thought something was wrong at first with the way the picture loaded.

I work down the street from the Solomon Gulch trailhead (which is on the other side of the bay from town), and if we really wanted to we could ride up Hogback from the house instead of trailering a whole three miles.
Sounds perfect! Yeah, too much wind in the mountains definitely means poor visibility in winter, even here. Anywhere you go above ~4000' here there is usually a pretty decent snow cover on the ground that will blow around all over the place. In the summer though, that wind is fantastic! Makes for a great escape from the heat and the crowds down in the valley in Asheville. But you definitely have my ideal set-up: to be able to ride my snowmachine from my driveway to the trailhead. That's heaven. Valdez sounds like one helluva place to live. I know about the drawbacks: coastal overcast, super heavy snow, etc., but that wouldn't bother me much. Because when the clouds clear and you get to see THAT... well, that's enough said, I think.

Not much heat here. About the warmest it gets in summer is 65-70. More often it's 55-60, and can get kinda chilly when it's drizzly and breezy. As far as your drawbacks go, the fog is pretty, the rain makes it green, and the snow is a good reason to move here. As far as I'm concerned, the real drawbacks are the cost of living and the lack of decent bars and restaurants.

I get to work at the Solomon Gulch hydro plant about 2x a year, but never go snow machining. And 4 wheeling is usually a part of the trip to a job site. Just a low down city boy.
