Radiation from Japan nuclear plant arrives on Alaska coast - North - CBC News

"Scientists at the University of Alaska are concerned about radiation leaking from Japan's damaged Fukushima nuclear plant, and the lack of a monitoring plan.

Some radiation has arrived in northern Alaska and along the west coast. That's raised concern over contamination of fish and wildlife. More may be heading toward coastal communities like Haines and Skagway.

Douglas Dasher, a researcher at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, says radiation levels in Alaskan waters could reach Cold War levels."

As usual there is no standard tanker truck, which is why an analogy to x number of tanker trucks spilling their liquid doesn't help me understand the real volume spilled to any degree of accuracy. Granted, even a small tanker truck represents a lot of volume.


Typically, tanker trucks carry between 5,500 to 11,000 Gal. Fuel weighs roughly 6lb a gal. Diesel more, around 7lb a Gal at room temp. For simplicity set's use 7lbs a gal x 11000 = 77,000 lbs or roughly 38.5 Tons....

Or 11,000 gallons = 261.9 bbls (barrels)

You'd think if they had an 11,000 gal capacity, they would have room for the extra 4-5 gal for 262 bbls...

We used to use 300 bbl tankers on the slope. Hauling water was fine...but when carrying drilling mud which can have an assortment of different weights...you had to carry less fluid. 13 pound per gallon drilling mud gets extremely heavy on tires and axles.

Khabarovsk is on the other side of Japan, on the Amur River adjacent to China - this area was NOT affected by the tsunami, but may have received some initial fallout.

Another thread where someone says "that color is black" and someone will say" oh no that color is dark dark gray". Just keep hitting hte ball back and forth and dont worry about what is going on behind the curtain.

Look...we are all gonna die. You can spend your life fretting over that fact...but it won't change a damn thing. From the moment you take your first breath your a dead man. I'll just continue to live my life as I have and am...and eventually pass on to a better place.
