Was at my bosses house for a BBQ and he offered Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon which I had one neat. Might have been the most delicious booze I've ever tasted.
I've been wasting a lot of time saying I'm "finally" going to visit the Bourbon Trail. It's minutes from my house so I guess it's easy to push it off 'til later. This month I went to the "Evan Williams Bourbon Experience" in downtown Louisville, and I highly recommend it. Even if you don't care much about bourbon at least go to that because it's so convenient. Now I only need seven more stamps on my Kentucky Bourbon Trail "passport" for a free t-shirt!
Congratulations mike1003 for treating yourself to such a fine drink.

They didnt have any Pappy Van Winkle when we toured Buffalo Trace Distillery. We were told that it sells out as soon as they get it. (The Evan Williams 23 Year Old that I bought is only available at the Distillery and the rest goes to Japan)
Although I am not an aficionado of bourbons myself I just read a fascinating article in Smithsonian Magazine about bourbon fanatics in Japan. There are a couple of bourbon bars that have hundreds of bottles of only bourbon, and some of them are quite rare and very old: some have not been seen in the US for decades! A Japanese owner of one of the bourbon bars made trips to Kentucky (and Tennessee too I think) and drive up and down the local roads hunting for odd bottles of old bourbons back in the '70's and '80's. He would ask liquor store owners if he could explore their cellars and attics! He collected bottles of small batch bourbons that no longer made and unique brands that have disappeared from the US generations ago.
I'll bet that in Japan, even a bottom-shelf American bourbon or whiskey goes for a whole lotta yen.
