Brands would max out at 5M consumers, BPOs would hire locals at all levels.
Yet London, New York, Singapore.etc still attract the lion's share of expats...

If you think NYC is uniformly wealthy then you are certainly wrong.

Also there is less room for expats to move to those cities as opportunities are crowded. Singapore is about to introduce new legislation requiring companies to hire locals first before considering foreigners.

It's in developing markets where one would find the action.

Dunno what your point is there. Anyway I'm done with this convo. I'd prefer KL anytime, and if it weren't for the Filipino boosters that seem all over this forum, most people would too.

^You can look at who voted on the poll. I recognize some as Filipinos, but not all of them...

So why say NYC and London attract the "lion's share" of expats? It seems like you are playing around with very loose terms. Anyone who actually lives in NYC and London knows that there is a huge proportion of hidden poverty in those areas that in some respects does more harm to their home countries than the slums in developing countries. Ever heard of Section 8 and the public sector pensions? It doesn't sound like fun if you have to pay the bill.

Now you're saying the poverty in NYC and London is comparable to Manila? Now that's too rich lol.

Double LOL. Actually I said they are not comparable which is why NYC can be worse. Did not comprehend again, tsk tsk.

Think about this. NYC is about $110 billion in debt with another $70+ billion in pension liabilities. Ever wonder where most of that money was used for?

The only expats that are going to poor developed countries are those with a lower education, such as (English) teachers.
The ones that go to a developed country are usually there for a big career.

Where did you get this nonesense? Nike alone is relocating dozens of foreigners to Jakarta to handle their marketing and develop the retail channels. The securities companies here in NY are moving American staff with Spanish fluency to Latin America. In Manila, the expats are being assigned to manage shared services offices. Expats are flocking to developing countries to advance their careers and some people here like seem oblivious to it. Ever heard of Bob Macdonald, Eduardo Castro-Wright, Cathy Weir, Ajay Banga, Indra Nooyi, George Samenuk? This is not the 1980s anymore.

What Forest_Hills_Daddy said.

In addition, your information is wrong about English teachers. They almost always teach to educated people, generally in wealthier countries. It's too expensive and pointless for uneducated poor people to shell out US$50+ for an hour English lesson.

If you hear strange statements like you made, it's best to pass it through logic, before adopting them into your own belief system.
