Bottom line is they are 2 separate cities. Neither one of them owes the other anything. The residents of North Fulton already pay taxes to Atlanta that they don't get back.

Just because a city resides within the imaginery boundaries of a "metro" does not mean that it's not independent of its own destiny.

The "metro blob" mentality is not attractive to everyone. Some people like to live in a real city and not a county-blob type "jurisdiction" like Gwinnett, with no character or community pride.

Those towns where nothing 40 years ago before Atlanta sprawled. You think if Atlanta blew up tomorrow that those places would continue to thrive?
Cobb would have a good shot. It has several tourist attractions, a national battlefield, multiple job centers, and its own Air Reserve Base. Let the Big Chicken rule Georgia!

That's the mentality of the intown beltline proponents, they can't pay for it themselves so they start whining about those redneck OTP'ers who won't foot the bill.

That's not true at all. A 1% sales tax in the city of Atlanta proper generates about $117,000,000 a year. So if the TSPLOST had passed the city would have contributed in excess of $1.1 billion over the next 10 years.

That's over twice the amount that would have gone to the Beltline.

Don't forget that OTPs will also have to pay more for local projects that get GDOT funding now that they have rejected this.

The destinies of the suburbs are intimately tied to the destiny of the central city. That's an absolute given.

It has a funding source, TAD. It will be built.
Stop talking out the side of your neck!

Why don't the pro-beltline people pressure the developers along the line to kick in money and b) put in those nice parking meters along the trail that we were using for the homeless. Then everyone can contribute.

Most 'green' parks have parking and camping fees. I know Soap Creek does, as well as all the way up in Ellijay/Blue Ridge.
