Are you sure? I cannot think of one major annexation of residential areas by the legislature without voter approval. It is easier to incorporate undeveloped areas or commercial areas, but large scale residential areas? It maybe on the books but I cannot think of a single example statewide by legislative action. Not a single one.

Cascade Falls is a gated community that is right off Cascade Road and Martin Park is a subdivision right off Fairburn Road south of Cascade Road. Both hearings have been held and should be done within a couple of weeks prior to the June 30th deadline.

I think I was able to locate them on Google Maps. Sadly, it looks like the Fulton Industrial Blvd. plan isn't going to make it before deadline. I wish someone would conduct a poll of the area to see the likelihood the cityhood will pass.

What is the advantage to those areas in becoming part of a city (Sought Fulton, Atlanta, or otherwise)?

Dunno. I'm just commenting as an outside observer. I do have a (mild) bias to see Atlanta become a bigger city in it's own right, but I really have no horse in the race. The locals can probably better answer the question of what they are looking forward to.

I'm not arguing for or against it either. Just wondering why those areas would want to become part of a city.

I believe the CoA annexing the FIB corridor would only require a city council vote as long as it doesn't include any residences.

I made a post on Nextdoor about the issue to my and nearby subdivisions and people responded saying they want more direct control in their government. Many touted zoning and SPLOST money as positives, and many just wanted to get from under Fulton County leadership. (Prime Example: Fulton approved a warehouse on Buffington Rd but the nearby residents were against it. They wanted something akin to a park/ amphitheater.)

I totally get those concerns for residential areas, demonta4.

I was actually wondering more particularly why the Fulton Industrial area would want to become part of a city. Is it advantageous for industrial/warehousing areas to be in a city as opposed to an unincorporated county?
