If the referendum passes, the entirety of Fulton County will be incorporated, so there are no other areas they could annex.

ETA: Within Fulton

Technically they could annex outside Fulton (Not that it would benefit South Fulton and it still wouldn't make the city cohesive, though every South Fulton city has borders like that.)

Palmetto and College Park are already in two counties.

Arjay, look at that map again. It's not about perfectly straight borders. There isn't an example of any two cities in the area going in and out like that amongst themselves like this proposed city does. Yes, there are examples of unincorporated islands surrounded by city limits, but no erratic ripped up jigsaw puzzle of intertwining cities like this anywhere in the metro.

Even if a city vote does pass, all of the area east of 85 needs to be annexed into one of the existing cities. All the area east and south of the South Fulton Parkway needs to be in Either Fairburn or Union City. The little fingers into southwest Atlanta need to be cleaned up.

Precedence was set when Johns Creek and Milton came into being. There was a time for Alpharetta and Roswell to straighten up their borders with each other and with the new cities. Took some compromise and negotiation, but it was done. The same thing needs to happen in the south end of the county if the referendum happens. This unwieldy map is ridiculous.

With Sandtown is still unincorporated then it could very much wind up being the turning point on determining if existence of this municipality will come to pass. The likelihood of many residents in Sandtown that want to be annexed into Atlanta coming out to vote against this again as retaliation of the pro-municipality crowd blocking their annexation petitions is very possible...

I'm just not seeing why the shape of a city's boundaries makes any difference, Saintmarks.

Imagine police, fire, water and sewer and zoning services. Throw in road construction and repair and city offices for serving citizens.

Come to Atlanta-in-DeKalb areas where we have use a 404 number to call Atlanta-Fulton 911, because if we used 911 from a cell we would get DeKalb 911 and have to be transferred to Atlanta-Fulton 911, which adds minutes. We have numerous issues as you get close to the border where personnel do not know where the jurisdiction boundaries are.

It's just stupid, I don't know how else to explain my complaint here. There's no reason for chunks of South Fulton and Union City to keep entering and exiting like a checker board as you drive down any of these roads. Takes away a sense of cohesive area identity, and it's just going to be confusing for everyone involved.

Imagine if all of metro Atlanta were like that. Like, take the area of the city of Roswell, and randomly put disconnected pieces of it all throughout central and north Fulton. So 2 blocks in Midtown would be in Roswell, a random abstract selection of Buckhead would be Roswell, and south part of Sandy Springs would be in Roswell but not the north part. With the Roswell city hall still up there north of the river.

There would no longer be any useful meaning communicated in the statement, "I live in Roswell". And the people who live in the block of Lenox Rd in the city of Roswell, totally surrounded by Atlanta, they're not gonna want to be in Roswell or feel any identity or connection with it. Nor are their public services going to be handled efficiently or effectively.

Things that have already been explained before in this lengthy thread. If arjay doesn't get it, he just won't get it.
