Seems like everything related to a MARTA rail expansion plan/project eventually gets converted to a boring BRT, then reduced to even more boring ART, then cancelled. Then a few more decades of "studies". Rinse, repeat.

They really should do a HRT spur from East Point to Jonesboro via Hapeville and Forest Park and Southlake Mall, with the line running up to Doraville for single seat ride, and one transfer at East Point for access to the airport.

There was a provision left for it, back a long time ago when MARTA actually got to build rail lines:

https://www.nycsubway.org/wiki/MARTA_Provisions

Also allows for the possibility of a second airport MARTA station on the east side of the airport, where they're expanding with the new terminal.

If the metro doesn't have commuter railroads then they should make the HOV lanes for buses only.

Totally should do that. But won't. Of course.

A network of quality bus-only lanes along the freeways (and some other arterials) could be a game-changer for ATL. With in-line stations and high frequency.

How do you come to this conclusion so quickly? Norfolk Southern sounds like they are being unreasonable.

This is what the State wants to do up 400 to Alpharetta.

I don't think Norfolk Southern is being unreasonable more than them just not wanting to deal with MARTA trains, period.

The express lanes aren't going to be bus-only and given the GDOT is having major issues getting bids under its upper budget limit, I wouldn't be surprised to see the BRT portion get yanked.

I don't think the BRT portion was ever part of the original scope was it? They only planned to make space available for MARTA to come in and build stations after the fact.

I hope they do yank it, they just need to extend the Red Line to Alpharetta and call it a day.
