Precisely which side streets would you recommend taking? The OP has to come far enough into Austin that taking "side streets" means taking already overtaxed roads like Manchaca or Brodie.

Ben White and William Cannon?

How about Wimberely or Dripping Springs and avoid I-35 entirely.

wtf? seriously? He is working at Congress/Ben White, and you are routing him through:

Brodie Lane in Shady Hollow
I-35 coming up from Wimberley
The "Y" in Oak Hill.

Horrible advice.

Initial post:

"Our office there is in South Austin near Ben White and William Cannon."

Edit: Also, no, you don't need to take the Y to come in from Wimberley or Dripping if you are going into SW Austin. And you CERTAINLY don't take I-35 from Wimberely to South Austin at all. If you don't know the roads from that area well you shouldn't be calling things "horrible advice."

What is the alternative that doesn't include Brodie or I-35? That leaves Manchaca rd, which at that point you might as well live in Rancho Alto or Olympic Heights like I suggested.

12/170/1826/45/MOPAC

Gets you anywhere in SW Austin with minimal traffic and can even hit 78704 reasonably well by looping around on Ben White.

You forot SH71 (Ben White). That's 6 highways the OP would need to take to work. again - wtf?

The 30 minutes from Wimberley is a farce, too. Count on 45-60 minutes.

I apologize, no offense intended.

FWIW - I-35 only backs up north of Ben White, and is pretty soft south of there, so conceivably, the OP could take I-35 from Wimberley and get there in about 30 minutes. The trip home is another matter. Traffic southbound backs up all the way until Buda.

I live south and drive I-35 into downtown, and it's not bad, you just need to know which parts to avoid. I take 35 north - take the westbound flyover at Ben White and then take S, First to my office on 3rd street. Pretty effective, and it's about 35 minutes for me. Had I taken I-35 all the way into town instead, it would add another 20 minutes easily.
