I was in California in November last year and again April this year and there were very few restrictions that were mainly masks and capacity limits. No quarantine, no questions from police or any of that. I also know many people who went to Europe and Mexico over the last year and they didn't have to quarantine when they came back to the US. And that was before there was a vaccine available to everyone. Now there are practically no restrictions. The only thing citizens need before coming back to the US is to have a negative covid test. No test needed for interstate travel at least at the moment.

Western Australia is going to put Victoria on Extreme Risk level, no traveling from there for any reason at all.

Well aren’t you all lucky that you do not live here and presumably do not need to visit here. You can keep on feeling sorry for us and keep us on your do not visit list.

Don't take it personally. Now you know how we feel when Brits/Australians/etc. say they feel so sorry for us poor Americans because of our healthcare system or whatever. Just have to blow that kind of thing off.

What's happening in Australia is insane! I would take the risk of getting sick with Covid over this insane police state any day! People can always CHOOSE to stay at home if they are worried about getting sick.

Your death rate might be considered acceptable in the US, but it would never be considered acceptable here. The vast majority of us accept that restrictions are necessary to keep the death rate as low as possible.
Obviously your countrymen do not support these restrictions. We are getting all kinds of crazy videos of Aussies fighting back against tyranny. Over here in the US we are rooting for our Aussie cousins who are demanding their freedom. Ridiculous that a western anglophone nation that is very similar to us has this type of heavy handed government repressing its people. What is going on over there is totally unacceptable in the free world. Those kinds of lockdowns and police action belong in Xi Pings China or Putin’s Russia, not Australia.

A response for the last time.

Obviously people vary in their acceptance of the restrictions. Because our countries are both English speaking does not constitute a reason for our responses to the pandemic to be the same. For example, Singapore is also English speaking and have had probably an even more strict response than us.

Overall the people strongly support our restrictions. Unlike the US we are only just getting to the situation where all who wish to be vaccinated are able to be. This is the same as in much of the world, there has and is a major vaccine shortage.

The general feeling is that once all who choose to be vaccinate have had the opportunity then the rest can take their chances. Until then we have been prepared to protect the vulnerable by adhering to the restrictions.

Scott Morrison is in Washington DC right now, and he was making the rounds on the morning news shows. When asked about the difference between America and Australia, he did say that Australia is a very different country then America. He also feels that Australia saved 30,000 lives, because of the tighter restrictions.

That’s fine but it’s just pathetic at the same time. Obviously you and your fellow Aussies are incapable of risk/benefit analysis and are willing to throw away years of your lives because of a virus that almost everyone survives.
