That's the real question, isn't it? I know that there's a fuel economy hit on dirty vehicles (learned this from a truck driver, later verified through other means...), and if there's nothing protecting the paint from the sun it'll "burn" just like your skin if you skip sunscreen. Then, if you live in a state that likes to use chemicals on the roads in the winter, that will promote faster rusting if it's not removed (not to mention it just plain looks bad).

But how long depends on how much one drives and in what conditions. A good paint sealant ought to protect the paint from the sun for 3~6 months, wax will do for 6~8 weeks. If you don't drive on salted roads or when the roads are wet, then things aren't going to "cling" to the car as readily either. That's why my truck, which only sees about 5000 miles a year anyway, only gets 2~3 washes a year. 2 just to get something on the paint to protect it from the sun and sometimes a 3rd because I've had it somewhere nasty (I'm comfortable with my manhood, don't need my 4x4 covered in mud to advertise I'm male).

I like a clean car.
This.

Except I pay $15/mo for unlimited washes. So I wash my minivan about once a week. DH has the same thing for his car, and he washes his about once a week as well. I usually wash it, then it rains the next day, so I wash it again. We both have white cars.

It's an in and out place, vacuum yourself, etc. I usually just use the wash. I vacuum when I know my kids have had lots of snacks in the car...gotta get the crumbs out!

Isn't that why we have rain storms??

for reasons beyond the capacity of most people, I'll never drive through a car wash. Heck, I don't let those folks hand wash any of my car either. That red GTO I posted up there.. is 7 years old in that pic. there's a reason the paint is in such a great condition.

I don't understand why people drive aground in dirty cars. They clean the inside of their homes, which few people see, yet drive around in dirty cars, which everyone sees.

I used to wash my car every time after I drove it. Now with us well into pollen season I may wash her every other week or so.

I also hate when people keep the interiors of their car dirty.
