This merger is not so much about finding new markets for products as letting FCA share in the more sophisticated technology PSA controls, including electrified drivetrains and advanced front-wheel-drive platforms.
It will take years for them to cross blend technology but there is hope good things will come out of it. I expect you might see some cross badging (same car, different name) sales fairly soon and maybe even some direct models for sale at local GM and Jeep dealers ala Peugeot which seems to be ready for the American Market.

FCA not GM General Motors is not involved with the merger.

Peugot has been talking about getting back into the US market, and has had vehicles on the ground doing testing. I saw some Peugot SUV's a year and a half ago already running around the Detroit metro area with manufacturer plates.
For Peugot, this gives them an established dealer network should they decide to bring European products stateside. Whether that is thru granting "Peugot" franchises to existing FCA dealerships or badging them under existing FCA brands.
Considering the ever shrinking product lineups at both the Dodge and Chrysler brands, there is certainly some room in the product lineups where overlap is not a primary concern.
FCA can give them some advice too, as they have experience and lessons learned through reintroducing both Alfa Romeo and Fiat to the US market.
