Now you know why PSA is coming back to the USA now they are the 4th largest automaker and the guy in charge of the FCA is in charge of the new company. Now what is it going to be called.
Are modern day Peugeot vehicles more reliable than FIAT? Does Peugeot have any vehicle that could compete in the compact to midsize sedan market in USA? Should they offer their products disguised as Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep before jumping into the USA market completely?
Went to Peugot’s UK website. Only two cars I could see them bringing here and they’re the 308 and 508. However, they shouldn’t bring them here as is. Some issues I saw in some of the video reviews include dashboard instruments visibility can easily be blocked by the steering wheel position, some materials (though feeling expensive) can create problems faster than more commonly used materials, and some driver controls may not be what some costumers are use to nor willing to learn to get use to. The 308 is roughly in the VW Golf class though not as engaging to drive as the Golf nor as functional a rear storage area as the Golf. The 508 looks beautiful but reviewers said it doesn’t ride as sporty as it looks which really isn’t that big a problem for USA consumers in the midsize class. Smooth comfortable ride seems to be more important to consumers in this class. It looks like a four door sedan but has a wide opening rear hatchback which means good functional storage. There is a beautiful wagon version but wagons don’t sell well in USA which is a shame with how lovely many of the European wagons look today and some offer more cargo capacity than some crossovers that are so popular today. The engine power numbers on both the 308 & 508 are competitive in their class. Only thing I don’t know so far is Peugeot’s reliability. I can easily see the 508 platform being reconfigured as a Chrysler or Dodge. The 308 platform as a 4 door hatchback may not work as well. I would think Dodge would rework the platform into a compact sedan.
Looked at their crossover/SUV vehicles and saw the same issues with the dashboard instruments display visibility. Seems too easy for the steering wheel to block the insruments.
A UK article on Peugeot reliability. Seems promising. But would style win over established brands’ perceived history of reliability? Would a Peugeot disguised as a Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep win over MOPAR diehard fans?
Dog poop and cat poop, when blended together, do not magically create maple walnut ice cream.
FCA's claim to fame, is making "cheap" cars, albeit with some innovative features (Offroad capability in Jeep, monster HP in Dodge, Stow 'n' Go seating in minivans, etc.. They are NOT known for great reliability, fuel economy, and refinement, I doubt bringing Puegot into the mix will change that, I equate the French and Italian automakers to be very similar, which isn't "great". I was rooting for the Renault merger to get some low-cost electric cars into the U.S., but that didn't happen, unfortunately. How is Puegot doing on electrification?
