Yes, Pakistan needs a 777 like they need an invasion.

Any country that allows a plane involved in some situation like this and not say anything or initiate some response would find itself on a list of places airlines from other countries would no longer fly to.

It is one thing to let a plane sit on the tarmac and not get involved, quite another to withhold the information that the plane is in-country.

Come on, the plane was reported missing very quickly. Pakistan is a nuclear country and has good air defenses, no way a 777 flew to evade their radar and land there and if it managed to do that, Pakistan says nothing. Talk about the S hitting the fan!

There are oxygen masks that drop from the back of the airplane. The masks are connected to an O2 Generator (i.e. a chemical reaction in a tube that looks like a flashbang) and the flow of O2 is started when you pull the mask down towards you and remove the pin. The flow is constant, but only last ~12-15 minutes (more than enough time to get the plane to a lower altitude).

There are also fire hoods in the cabin that provide O2 for flight attendants needing to fight a fire, along with portable oxygen bottles for the flight attendants to use if they need to walk about the cabin during a depressurization event.
The oxy mask drops can be overridden.

It's not in Pakistan.

agree - to me if anywhere is Western sub-Sahara Africa

if this landed in Pakistan we would have watched it land on satellites - we may have anyway if it did

this either crashed in nose dive fashion or is sitting under cover somewhere with the passengers dead sadly IMHO

imagine if is still intact we will know more soon as there will be some form of military intervention to take it out/re-capture it
Political protest by the pilot

It has been reported that the pilot was upset about the trial and jailing of Anwar Ibrahim in Malaysia and perhaps he is making a political statement. If the end result of this "statement" is crashing the plane, this is essentially the suicide scenario, but with a motive. If his intended end result was to land the plane, that would provide an explanation for why land on an abandon island without being able to take-off again.
Thanks for posting that, I agree with most of you wrote. I also think the most propable motive was Political Protest combined w/ Suicide. And most likely, the main pilot did this totally on his own with the goal of embarrassing the current Mayaysian government and bringing attention to the political situation there, not caring about his own survival (and callously not caring about the lives of the passengers & crew.)

Political statements are only worth something if everyone knows you made a statement.

Exactly.

Like instead of hide the plane and disappear, maybe crash into a gov't building that you are against.

Agreed. Ours couldn't be done from the cockpit, it was controlled via the Flight Attendant station.

I read that this beacon can only be heard a few hundred feet away. So if it is crashed in the ocean, it's possible that there's nothing close enough to hear it. Also, the plane could be in very deep water. I don't know if the plane crashed, but I'm just saying that the fact that the locator beacon hasn't been heard does not mean that the plane didn't crash into water.
