If you have your wits about you then it can be a great place to live. It's far less expensive, everything is a cab ride away and the neighbors I had on Washington and Wyeth are great. I would suggest looking at the City Paper Murder Inc Crime stats. Most of the murders in Downtown Baltimore are near Pigtown, just something to think about.

There is a reason there are blue lights there.

Thanks for the articles. I have my answer. And, I"m beginning to doubt my decision to buy in Baltimore. Really. I'm not so sure anymore. I don't want to deal with its problems and be a casualty of a mugging or worse yet, a rape or gun to the head coming home late from my summer job. I really don't know anymore.

Yeah, not sure I know anybody who was randomly shot and killed here in the city. I have lived in Pigtown with my family for 5 years. We walk everywhere..wife jogs all over..and we hang out with other families in the area. Short walk to downtown and ball games.

It is not perfect. There are improvements I would still like to see.......but I like the direction it is heading. But if you are already scared...most definitely don't come it makes it worse.

What are the actual boundaries of Pig Town (aka Washington Village)? When I think of the area I think of the area around the new Camden Crossing Town Homes and Washington Blvd down to the Carol Park.. That corridor doesnt seem all that bad.. maybe there is some stuff going on on the side streets that is questionable. North around the B and O RR museum.. there is some sketchy stuff.. maybe that is the section of pig town that people are referring to???

Yahoo maps is pretty good for looking at neighborhood boundaries. Mind you these boundaries are artificial and may vary some depending on what resource you use.

Good point woodlands. I have never actually been sure where the boundaries lie for Pigtown either. I know Washington Street is part of it. I've actually always enjoyed the annual racing of the pigs.

Its really anything south of Pratt down to Carroll Park. Some great parts..some good parts...some crappy parts. There are some good things happening on Wash Blvd too..which is nice. Hopefully the nice wine/beer store Espiratas opens soon, too.
