Anyone have a BUD [Big Ugly Dish]?

I would really like to get hooked up with an old time BUD that moves and can aim at 20 different satelites.

Forest, those are still available, along with the receivers, with descramblers. It is still the cheapest programming around. I don't know if HD is on the C band or not, but the small dish providers use K, Ku band, which can of course be received with the big dish. (perfect reception no matter what the weather)

Well here's my 2 cents from the New York City area.

The digital channels are crystal clear and look absolutely great.

We have some digital channels up and running ( NBC , ABC , WOR ) in Jersey City .

5 miles away in Newark NJ the same channels can't be received.

I wouldn't count on getting anything out in the sticks.

While we do appreciate the opinion of those who live in NYC; the OP was "Maine: I can't receive Bangor area over-the-air digital TV stations".

Which rather implies that it is about folks who live or near Maine, and more specifically near Bangor / Dover Foxcroft.

I am certain however that life in the nation's most dense urban center does have a correlation to life in Maine.

Sorry if it was over your head . My post was a simple indication of how the signals are in a Metro area like NYC. I'm sure it wasn't to hard for everyone else to figure out...

The consensus seems to be that if you are more than 10 miles from a TV broadcast tower, you are not going to get the new digital signals.

I did not realise that I had given the impression that anything you said was over my head. Perhaps I need to type slower.

What works in a hell-hole of millions of people all squeezed into a tiny area, is fine for them.

It does not apply to anything in a rural area.
