I don't think major league baseball would approve the A's leaving the no CA market, but, if it did, I wouldn't mind if the A's moved to so Jersey. A stadium could be built on the Camden waterfront as a way of spurring economic development.
That is in the south, right. Let's see what other teams are in the south: Atlanta, Miami and Tampa Bay. All teams are doing well in the standings right now. Not one of them is really doing very well in the stands. Seems to me the South does not really support baseball.
I say back to Philadelphia where I can remember listening to their last games on the radio with By Saam as an 8 year old.. Bobby Shantz and his brother Wilbur. Pete Suder, Ferris Fain, Joe Astroth and of course Vic Power and Gus Zernial.
If Baltimore had an issue with the Nationals showing up in DC, you better believe another team in Philly isn't happening.
As for sun belt cities not being big on sports, well...that happens when there is a lot to do in town and the weather is nice. That is what plagues the Rockets and Astros here. Somehow, the Texans got off easy for nine pretty lousy years...if teams don't stand out, there are other things to do with our money.

HEY - another LIer who listened to the A's in Philly. Remember By Saam well. And Bobby Schantz was always a favorite of mine. My first baseball glove was a Vic Power model. My first baseball game was watching the A's at Connie Mack stadium.
The way the Phils are playing right now, I think ANY team will be welcome in Philly.

By doing nothing Selig endorses the status quo which is a defacto stance in favor of the Giants.
If the A's did come back to Philadelphia, I could sport my Philadelphia A's gear (which has royal blue as the primary color - that was the A's primary color before Charles Finley changed the team's colors to green and gold after buying the team in the early 1960s) a lot more often.
Interestingly, I got an up close and personal look at the A's current and most probable future ballpark sites when I made a trip to northern California last August/September - attended an A's game at the Coliseum (at which I wore the aforementioned Philadelphia A's gear - jersey and hat, plus a Philadelphia A's Historical Society T-shirt), went to San Jose via Caltrain and saw the proposed ballpark site near San Jose Dirdion train station (and ballpark mockups while walking around downtown San Jose), and took a day trip to Sacramento and saw the A's Triple A team, the River Cats, at Raley Field.
