A disappointment for the Athletics in the game would be Stephen Piscotty. Three strikeouts in four at bats is unacceptable.

Piscotty has issues bumming out at home plate striking out and not hitting balls with bats for base hits and runs batted in. His shenanigans earned him assignments in the Cardinals' farm system. Cardinals fans were happy to see him go.

Default 3-6

Wednesday: Rangers 2 @ A's 6.

Bruce Maxwell doubled home Matt Chapman with a 2 out double in the 2nd. Rangers starter Doug Fister allowed a single to Chapman, a walk to Chad Pinder and a walk to Maxwell to load the bases. Chapman scored on an error by Rangers catcher Robinson Chirinos, a Marcus Semien sac fly scored Pinder, and then a Jed Lowrie double scored Maxwell and Powell to put the A’s up 5-0. A Ryan Rua groundout scored Nomar Mazara in the 5th to put the Rangers on the boards. Matt Olson had a 0 out bases loaded single in the 7th to finish the A’s scoring on the day, but the Rangers averted further damage by getting Chapman to strike out, Pinder to pop up, and Maxwell to ground out, and Shin-Soo Choo had his first homer of the year for the Rangers final run of the night. Fister (1-1) allowed 5 runs (only 2 earned) on 7 hits in 3.2 with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Sean Manaea (1-1) allowed 1 run on 3 hits with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts in 8 innings. Daniel Mengden (0-1, 7.94) started for the A’s in the series finale against Martin Perez (13-12, 4.82 in 2017) making his first start of the year. Game time was 3:40

Thursday: Rangers 6 @ A's 3.

Adrian Beltre doubled leading off the 2nd to become the All-time hits leader among Latin born players, and tie Rickey Henderson on the all-time hit list, and then would score 2 batters later on Rougned Odor’s single. Both Odor and Mazara would score on a Mengden error, and Rua would score on a Jake Smolinski single. Lowrie would put the A’s on the board in the 3rd with an RBI double, and then Semien would add a sac fly to score Pinder to cut the defecit in half at 4-2. Rangers head home to open a 3 game series with the Blue Jays on Friday while the A’s will face the Angels for the second time in a week, this time in Anaheim. Parker Bridwell (10-3, 3.64 in ’17) starts the A’s against Daniel Gossett (0-1, 9.00). Game time was 10:07.

Friday: A's 9 @ Angels 13.

Lowrie had a 2 out homer in the first, and the A’s would put up 5 runs in the 2nd to go up 6-0. After a groundout to begin the inning Chapman singled, Jonathan Lucroy doubled, and with Stephen Piscotty batting a Martin Maldonado passed ball scored Chapman, and a Piscotty sac fly scored Lucroy. Powell would single and then the A’s would get back-to-back homers from Matt Joyce and Semien to conclude the scoring in the inning, but a long way away from the scoring on the night being concluded. Shohei Ohtani would homer for the 3rd straight game to get the Angels on the board in the bottom half, and then in the 4th Andrellton Simmons singled home Albert Pujols, a Luis Valbuena groundout scored Kole Calhoun, and then Maldonado cut the deficit to 1 with an RBI single. Chapman would have a 2 run homer in the 6th to restore a 3 run lead for the A’s, but the Angels got the 2 runs back in the bottom half on a Simmos single and Ohtani bases loaded walk, but Yusmiero Petit would keep the A’s in the lead as Maldonado ended the inning with a double play. Matt Olson would add a 2 out solo home run in the 7th to put the A’s in front 9-7. 2 runners would score on a 2 out error by Chapman, and following an intentional walk to Mike Trout, Justin Upton put the Angels in front for good with a 3 run homer to center, and the last Angels run would score in the 8th on a wild pitch by Santiago Casilla. Default 4-6

A's 7 @ Angels 3.

Stephen Piscotty had a 2 out double in the second to drive home Matt Chapman and after walks to Jake Smolinski and Matt Joyce loaded the bases Marcus Semien had a 2 RBI single to put the A’s up 3-0. Justin Upton 2 run homer in the 4th put the Angels on the board and cut the deficit to 1. Jed Lowrie homered in the top of the 5th to restore a 2 run A’s lead at 4-2, and Luis Valbuena would counter Lowrie’s solo home run with a solo home run of his own in the 7th to cut the A’s lead to 4-3. After Matt Olson started the 8th with a walk, Chapman hit one to LF that Upton lost in the lights which scored Olson, and Bruce Maxwell had a single that scored Chapman, and then Olsen had a 2 out RBI single in the 9th to finish the scoring. Angels put the first 2 batters on in the 9th against Blake Treinen, but Treinen was able to retire the final 3 batters. Default 4-7

A's 1 @ Angels 6.

Mike Trout drew a 1 out walk, and after Kendall Graveman struck out Justin Upton Albert Pujols had an RBI double and then scored on Kole Calhoun’s single, Trout would homer in the 3rd for a 3-0 Angels lead, and in the 4th Trout would add an RBI single for a 4-0 lead and later in the inning would add a 5th run on an Upton sac fly. With the way Shohei Ohtani was pitching for the Angels (perfect through 6.1) that would be more than enough for the Angels but they added a 6th and final run on a Ryan Schimpf home run to lead off the 6th. Matt Joyce would have the lone A’s RBI with a 1 out homer to RF. Graveman (0-2) was subpar yet again allowing 5 runs on 5 hits (1 homer) with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts in 6.1. Ohtani (2-0) allowed only 1 hit, 1 walk, with 12 strikeouts through 7 scoreless innings 6 1/3 of which were perfect. Both teams hit the road for their next series, though one team is only heading down the 405. Angels open a 3 game series in Arlington against a Rangers team coming off losing 2 of 3 to the Blue Jays. A’s will stay in Southern Cal and will play their first interleague series a quick 2 game set against the Dodgers @ Chavez Ravine after a well-deserved off day Monday: A’s & Rangers are the only 2 teams that have yet to have an off day in the majors this year, the Rangers will get their first off day on Thursday. Hyun-Jin Ryu (0-0, 7.36) starts for the Dodgers against Sean Manaea (1-1, 1.15) with game time scheduled for 10:10.

Default 5-8

Tuesday: A's 0 @ Dodgers 4.

Dodgers started the game with back-to-back home runs Chris Taylor to lead off the game followed by Corey Seager for a quick 2-0 Dodgers lead 2 batters into the game . Matt Kemp had a wall scrapping home run in the 5th, literally, it hit the top of the wall and bounced over, guess that’s the breaks the A’s are getting so far this year for a 3-0 lead, Cody Bellinger singles and Logan Forsythe doubled to score Bellinger for a 4-0 lead. And with the A’s only having 3 base runners total through 7 innings (1 walk & 2 singles) this looks like more than enough for the Dodgers. They did threaten in the 8th but Marcus Semien’s double bounced-over the wall so instead of a double Stephen Piscotty had to stop at 3rd. They had 2 on with 1 out in the 9th as well but Jonathan Lucroy struck out and Piscotty grounded out to end it. Hyun-Jin Ryu (1-0) allowed 1 hit, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts in 6 scoreless and Kenley Jansen (2nd save) had 1 strikeout in 2/3 of an inning. Sean Manaea (1-2) allowed 2 runs on 7 hits (2 homers) with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts in 5 innings. Alex Wood (0-1, 1.93) starts for the Dodgers while the A’s give the ball to Daniel Mengden (0-2, 6.55) with first pitch scheduled for 10:10.

Wednesday: A's 16 @ Dodgers 6.

Kris Davis had a 2 out, 2 run homer in the first the first 2 of many runs the A’s would put on the board against Wood and the Dodgers bullpen. Seager would have an RBI double in the 1st for a 2-1 A’s lead. Davis would score on Matt Chapman’s single, starting pitcher Mengden would have a RBI single, Semien had a 2 run double, and then Matt Olson had a single scoring Semien. Yasmani Grandal would homer in the 4th to cut the deficit to 2-7, and the A’s Jed Lowrie would get that run back in the 6th on an RBI single. Grandal would have a single that scored Kemp, and Bellinger would score on Logan Forsythe groundout to make it 9-4. Semien had a single in the 7th to make it 10-4, and Chapman would have a 2 run homer in the 8th to make it 12-4 and Chase Utley had a sac fly to make it 12-5. Semien had an RBI force out and Lowrie had a 3 run homer to finish the scoring with 16 runs scored, and Kiki Hernandez would homer in the bottom half for the 22nd and games final run of the night. Both teams have Thursday off. A’s continue on their road trip with a stop in Seattle for a 3 game series. Andrew Triggs (1-0, 2.53) starts for the A’s while Mike Leake (2-0, 3.00) starts for the Mariners. First pitch scheduled from the Emerald City at 10:10.

As of this morning the A's have two of the top five AL WAR performers among position players. Matt Chapman is tied with Mike Trout for the lead with 1.6, and out of nowhere Jed Lowrie has been been hitting like Rogers Hornsby and is in a three way tie for third place at 1.4 WAR.

Lowrie & Chapman have been great, Olson has been pretty good, Davis is still good, Semien seems to have figured it out after what seeems like 10 years, Joyce gets on base. Rest of the team ehhh. Manaea has been fantastic so far this year, Triggs was bad today but has been pretty good, Mengden has been mostly terrible but was good last night so hopefully that’s a start, and Graveman has been atrocious all season, I’m struggling to find anything positive to say about him.
