Got the sweep in San Diego, pulling out the win in the first game in come back fashion tying the game against one of the best closers in the same in the Padres Brad Hand, and split in Chicago over the weekend. 10 game road trip continues with 4 games in Detroit including a weird 3:10 local (12:10 Oakland) start on Monday (Grandstander, any idea why they are playing an afternoon game in the series opener?? Not a postponement since this is the first and only time Oakland will be in Detroit, and than following Thursday's afternoon finale they'll fly back home to host Cleveland to close out June.

A's beat Cleveland today 7-2, making it six wins in a row. Oakland is now 46-38, a season high eight games over .500. If the A's and the Indians were to swap places, Oakland would lead the AL Central by 9.5 games.

Today's game featured one of those incidents which makes you think about how much luck is involved in the game. The A's were down 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth. Barreto was on first and A's catcher Josh Phegley popped the ball up toward the stands. Indian's catcher Yan Gomes gave chase and the ball came down on the field side of the rail. Gomes would have made an easy catch except this was right where a TV camera jutted out about a foot beyond the rail. Gomes arm smacked into the camera, knocking it away, and the ball dropped.

Given a second chance, Phegley responded with his second home run of the year to tie the game.

Default 46-39

Won 4 straight in Detroit, and than won the first 2 against the Indians before falling in the series finale Sunday 15-3 to end the week with a sour taste. Friday's game saw Indians relief pitcher Oliver Perez become the first pitcher in MLB history to face a batter without throwing a single pitch; he had been brought in to face the lefty-hitting Dustin Fowler, Bob Melvin pinch hit Mark Canha, and Perez intentionally walked him, and than got replaced. With the new intentionally walk rule effective this year you don't have to throw a pitch.

2 games with the Padres to finish off the final home stand before the All Star Break, off day on Thursday to travel to Cleveland before they play @ the Indians next weekend.

Won the 2 games vs. the Padres, 2 of 3 in Cleveland, and than won the first of 4 in Houston. That's now 17 wins in their last 21 games, almost a carbon copy of the team that replaced the A's in Kansas City, the Royals, who are trending in the wrong direction losing 28 of their last 32 games. And even with this hot streak, they've been unable to make up much ground in the AL playoff picture which just goes to show just how good the Yankees, Red Sox and the West have been as they are still 9 back in the division and 6 back for the second Wild Card. The 4 game set in Houston continues through Thursday afternoon, and than they'll play back-to-back series with the Giants, the first coming in San Fran at Pac Bell, they'll have 4 days off before resuming the series with 3 in Oakland.

What a weird way to lose a ballgame. After a tremendous four run ninth to tie it, it felt like Oakland would go on to win, but...

With the game 5-5 in the bottom of the 11th, Riddick was on third and Bregman at the plate. He hit a ball down into the dirt in foul territory, but the ball took a strange spin and rolled back into fair territory. Bregman, unaware that it was fair, stood at the plate. A's catcher LuCroy realized it was fair and leaped out to pick up the ball, he turned to tag Bregman who backed away from him, and the ball popped out of Lucroy's hand. Bregman then ran around Lucroy and headed for first. There was still plenty of time to throw him out, but Lucroy's toss went wide and Riddick came in with the winning run.

The A's have caught fire and are playing their best baseball of the season. They had yet another comeback win over the Astros today to win that series 3-2. On June 15 the team was 34-36, having gotten swept by Houston and then dropping the first game in a series to the Angels. Since then they have been 17-5, 14-2 in their last sixteen.

They play the Giants in the Bay Bridge series this weekend before the All Star break.

Indeed, the A's are playing good baseball. Sensational. And they're somehow doing this with a depleted starting rotation, making it more remarkable.

Continue to roll as they won 3 of 4 in Houston and 2 of 3 in the first installment of the Bay Bridge battle to get to within 3 back of Seattle for the second Wildcard after the Mariners got swept in Colorado. They resume the second installment of the Bay Bridge battle in Oakland tonight to Sunday, than hit the road to Texas for 4 and Colorado for 3.

Nine hits and four walks, loaded the bases three different times without scoring, 13 runners stranded as the A's finally lost, 3-1 to the Rockies. All teams suffer from bad umpiring from time to time, tonight the strike zone seemed to expand pretty far outside for A's hitters at especially critical moments. Still, the major problem was the A's not being able to capitalize on the numerous opportunities they created for themselves. The Mariners lost as well, so the A's remain one game behind.

Won 2 of 3 at home against the Giants to win that season series 4-2, swept all 4 games in Texas, and than got extinguished in Colorado suffering a 3 game sweep at the hands of the Rockies, their first 3 game losing streak in more than a month (from June 12-15 when they lost 4 in a row). And what a complete 360 in series from Texas to Colorado. After scoring 41 runs in 4 games in Texas, they preceded to score only 4 runs total in the Rockies series. Granted, they only held the Rockies to 10 runs total for the series, but tough to win series when you score only 4 runs at such a hitters ballpark like Coors Field is. Now they head home for 8 straight games and 17 of their next 20 are at home starting Monday night when the Jays visit town, and following an off day Thursday the Tigers will conclude the week with a visit to the Bay Area.
