Yesterday they got 10 runs, today they have 11, but it hasn't been good enough because the White Sox also have 11.

They have been at it for four and a half hours now, two outs in the bottom of the 10th, no one on.

As a former die-hard and season ticket-holder, I just haven't been able to muster the enthusiasm since the Cespedes trade. It will probably take Beane leaving the organization altogether to call myself a fan again. I really do hope they work something out to stay in Oakland, still.

At last....it took 14 innings but truth, justice and the Oakland A's triumphed, 12-11.

Default 9-10

Tuesday: White Sox 2 @ A's 10.

Bottom of the order for the A’s delivered big time as #8 hitter Stephen Piscotty (2-3 1 run scored) and #9 hitter Jonathan Lucroy (3-4, 1 run) each drove in 3 runs, and #7 hitter Mark Canha went 3-4, with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI’s, so combined hitters 7-8-9 went 8-11 with 5 runs scored and 8 RBI’s, pretty good . Marcus Semien had an RBI despite an 0-4 day, Jed Lowre went 2-4 with a RBI, run scored on a home run, Khris Davis, and Matt Olson each had a single hit and run scored while Matt Chapman went 0-2 but drew 3 walks and scored 2 runs. Trevor Cahill (1-0) pitched 7 scoreless allowing 5 hits, 2 walks with 8 strikeouts. Yoan Moncada was the only Sox player to record multiple hits and had the only 2 White Sox RBI’s with a 2 run 8th inning home run off of Ryan Dull to end the shutout while Omar Narvaez preceded Moncada with a base hit and scored the first run on the home run. Miguel Gonzalez (0-3) allowed 8 runs on 8 hits (1 homer) with 2 walks and 1 strikeout. In other West action on Tuesday: Rangers beat the Rays 7-2, Angels lose to the Red Sox 1-10 and the Astros beat the Mariners 4-1. The leaves the standings: Angels in first at 13-4, 2.5 up on the Astros at 11-7, Seattle stays 3 back at 9-6, Oakland moves to 5.5 back at 8-10 and the Rangers continue to bring up the rear at 7-12, 8 games behind. The series finale goes on Wednesday. Andrew Triggs (1-0, 2.87) starts for the A’s against Carson Fulmer (0-1, 4.66), game time scheduled for 3:35.

Wednesday:
White Sox 11 @ A's 12 (14 innings).

Lowrie (2-7, 2 runs scored, 1 home run) and Olson (4-6, 1 run scored) each lead the A’s with 3 RBI’s, Davis had 2 RBI’s, and 1 run scored on 3 hits, Semien had 2 runs scored, 2 base hits on 1 hit with 1 RBI, Chapman added an RBI, Canha had 1 run scored and 1 RBI on a home run, Bruce Maxwell had an RBI and a run scored, Piscotty had 2 runs scored, and Matt Joyce had 2 runs scored before he got replaced by Chad Pinder. Triggs failed to make it out of the second inning as he allowed 6 runs on 5 hits (1 Grand Slam) with 2 walks and 0 strikeouts, Blake Treinen (2nd blown save) allowed 1 run on 4 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts in 3 innings and Lou Trivino (1-0) allowed 2 hits and had 4 strikeouts in 3 scoreless innings. Moncada lead the White Sox with 4 RBI, and had 3 runs scored with a second inning grand slam, Jose Abreu had 2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s finishing 3-6, Nicky Delmonico and Matt Davidson combined for 5 hits and an RBI each, Leury Garcia, Tim Anderson and Adam Engel had a run scored and RBI, while Yolmer Sanchez, Tyler Saladino and Wellington Castillo each added a run scored. Fulmer failed to record an out in the second as he allowed 4 runs on 5 hits (1 home run) with 2 walks and 0 strikeouts in 1+ inning as he faced 4 batters in the second and failed to retire any of the 4, Danny Farquhar (2nd hold) allowed a run on a hit in 1/3 of an inning, Luis Avilan (1st blown save) allowed 2 runs on 1 hit (1 home run) with a walk in a 1/3 of an inning and Friday’s scheduled starter James Shields (1-1) took the loss allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 2 walks in 2/3 of an inning. In other West action on Wednesday Rangers lose to the Rays 2-4, Angels get shut out by the Red Sox 0-9, and the Astros beat the Mariners 7-1. That leaves the Angels still in first at 13-5, 1.5 up on the second place Astros who are 12-7, Seattle falls to 9-7 but stays 3 back, Oakland moves to 4.5 back at 9-10, and Texas continues to bring up the rear falling to 7-13 and they stay 7 games behind the Angels. Both teams are off on Thursday and have home series over the weekend: A’s host the other pair of Sox, the Boston red kind, as Kendall Graveman (0-3, 9.87) looks to have a productive outing and he’ll be opposed by an ex A’s pitcher Drew Pomeranz (17-6, 3.32 in 2017) who is coming off the DL to make his first start and appearance of 2017. Chi Sox will host the World Series champion Houston Astros over the weekend. In West action on Thursday Astros & Mariners continue their series as well as the Red Sox & Angels while the Rangers will join the A’s with a much deserved off day. Mariners travel to Texas, and the Angels host the Giants in an interleague matchup for the other West series over the weekend.

I was at the final Sunday game of the Angels series and the first Tuesday game of the Dodgers series and was able to witness 1 A's hit in some 13 innings. I have to admit that I was rooting for Ohtani's perfect game bid AND Ryu's no-hit bid. My love for baseball and for history trumps my love for the A's, I suppose.

Default 9-11

Red Sox 7 @ A's 3.

Jed Lowrie continued his torrid pace finishing 4-5 with an RBI and run scored, Matt Olson and Mark Canha had the other 2 RBI’s, while Stephen Piscotty and Matt Chapman scored the A’s other 2 runs. Kendall Gravemen (0-4) had another subpar outing allowing 6 runs on 7 hits with 0 walks and 6 strikeouts in 5 innings. Mitch Moreland had 4 RBI’s and 1 run scored and the game-winning grand slam in the 7th inning while Jackie Bradley had 1 run scored and 3 RBI’s and the game-tying home run in the 2nd after the A’s scored 3 in the first, and Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi, Hanley Ramirez, Rafael Devers, and Eduardo Nunez had the other 5 runs scored. Drew Pomeranz allowed 3 runs on 5 hits with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts in 3.2, Hector Velazquez (3-0) had 4 hits and 1 strikeout in 3 scoreless innings, and Matt Barnes (4th hold) had 2 strikeouts in 1.1 hitless innings. In other West action on Friday: Mariners beat the Rangers 6-2, Angels lose to the Giants 1-8 and the Astros shut out the White Sox 10-0 with a scary moment in this game with White Sox reliever Danny Farquhar collapsing in the 6th inning with which turned out was a brain hemorrhage. Thoughts and prayers to him with hopes he can make a speedy recovery and we can see him back out there on the mound again in the near future. The Astros take over first with a 15-7 record, Angels are 1 back at 13-7, Seattle sits 3 back at 10-8, Oakland is 9-11 5 back, and the Rangers are 7-14 7.5 back. Game 2 of the series is on Saturday as the A’s will look to slow down the Red hot Sox winners of 9 straight and 17 of their past 18. Chris Sale (1-0, 1.23) starts for the BoSox against Sean Manaea (2-2, 1.63), with game time scheduled for 9:05.

Manaea's no hitter required no especially acrobatic defensive plays, but it did require some help from the umpire and the official scorer. In the fifth Sandy Leon hit a pop fly toward center which Marcus Semien went back on....and had it pop out of his glove. After an anxious moment, it was ruled an error.

The next inning Andrew Benintendi rolled a grounder up the firstbase line and dodged the tag, appearing to be safe. The umpire ruled that he had gone too far out of the basepath and was out.

Default 10-11

Red Sox 0 @ A's 3.

This was the Sean Manaea show as he whirled a gem a complete game no hitter to shut down the Red hot Red Sox. Sandy Leon reached on a Marcus Semien’s fielding error (though questionable if that should have been an error), Andrew Benintendi got called out for interference to end the 6th after seemingly reaching on an infield single, with the hardest hit ball probably Hanley Ramirez’s force out to end the game with Mookie Betts and Benintendi the only Red Sox batters to reach base on walks. Chris Sale (1-1) allowed 3 runs on 6 hits (1 home run) with 1 walk and 10 strikeouts in 7 innings. Semien, Stephen Piscotty, and Jed Lowrie each had RBI’s with Semien scoring all 3 runs with a home run. Manaea (3-2) allowed only those 2 walks and had 10 strikeouts. In other West action on Saturday: Astros beat the White Sox 10-1, Mariners beat the Rangers 9-7, while the Angels edge the Giants 4-3. Houston at 15-7 is in first a half game up on the 14-7 Angels, Seattle at 11-8 is 2.5 back, Oakland is 10-11 4.5 back, while Texas is 8 back at 7-15. A’s will look to hand the Red Sox their first series loss on Sunday. Daniel Mengden (2-2, 4.50) starts for the A’s against David Price (2-1, 2.25) game time scheduled for 4:05.

I don't see why Simien's muff would even remotely be considered a hit....the ball landed in his glove and popped back out...in what universe is that a hit?

And Benintendi wasn't called out for interference, it was for leaving the basepath to avoid the tag....which was also the right call, Benintendi was clearly out of the path.

If there had not been a no hitter involved, no one would be questioning either of the decisions.
