What are you talking about only higher up knew? That's just playing dumb. His past is all over the internet. It's in newspapers and on local TV. The NBA simply had no problem taking his money until the media outcry. Anyone with common sense can figure that out.
Change the bold to say... until the Clippers became relevant as a team.
"Magic's absolutely interested," another source told Yahoo Sports on Sunday night, noting that, if successful, Johnson would own two championship contenders in the Clippers and Dodgers.
"This is 100 percent Magic's plan," that source told Yahoo Sports.
But the Los Angeles Times reported the Clippers aren't for sale – yet.

The former ESPN analyst Sunday night begged new NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to "come down hard" on Sterling, the Times reported.
Magic Johnson and his billionaire backers, the Guggenheim Partners, want a chance to purchase the Los Angeles Clippers, league sources told Yahoo Sports. "Magic's absolutely interested," one source closely connected to Johnson's business interests told Yahoo Sports on Sunday night.

The Dodgers group is serious about owning an NBA team, and the league knows it. Together, they arranged for Johnson and the Guggenheim Partners to purchase the WNBA's cash-strapped Los Angeles Sparks in February. The league office needed someone to spare it the embarrassment of the WNBA's flagship franchise folding, and Magic and Guggenheim bailed it out. This hadn't been born out of a sense of benevolence, but rather a pragmatic move to deeper ingratiate themselves with the NBA.
So Sunday, Johnson goes on national television and tells everyone: Donald Sterling should lose the Clippers.

Interesting that Johnson was the one in the Instagram picture that started all of this...

yes, higher ups and that includes stern as well. what saddens me is that its ok to discriminate the latinos but once you bring up black people..oops, that's the line. As a latino myself, I agree with Stephen A Smith said this morning (and I hate the guy) regarding the NAACP giving this man awards when hes been under the scope of discrimination for the housing back in 09 and shame on them for giving him awards for being a discriminatory racist person.
There are a lot of things at work here and you're right: once it went viral even the ncaap couldn't see themselves going that way and thus pulled out.

Magic Johnson buying the Clippers would be like slapping the Lakers organization in the face. The Lakers organization and possibly fans might see it as being disrespectful. It would be like Derek Jeter (NY Yankees) buying the NY Mets.

You think Magic cares about that? Please. There's loot out there to be had.

Funny how that worked out isn't it? If his group ends up buying the Clippers, the fix was in.
This guy got what he deserved, good for the league, good for the sport, good for America.
