BJCC Reveals Protective Stadium Official Design Plans

here's a link to the PDF presentation: https://uabsports.com/documents/2019...ion_091819.pdf

basically what we saw last week, but some additional images released as well.

i, for one, am relatively satisfied. $174 million was not a lot to work with.

I haven't read much about the plans for this. I assume a few thousand spots will be added, but hopefully not TOO many because let's be honest... how many events per year will be held there with a need for more than, say, 5000 new spaces?

One of the key decisions to come out today was heavy talk of expanding seats already, by a lot in the future. That means they are estimating on have some huge events there in the future, so more seats are needed.

To me, that's the critical aspect of it. As long as it's a stadium that can grow with the market's needs, then this should be a home run.

Any word on the status of the BJCC renovation?

I think I read somewhere that Legacy Arena will be finished 6 months to a year after the stadium project. I wish they would update the facade of the entire BJCC. It looks so outdated!

Yeah now that they've got the stadium design down, I hope we get to see renderings of the Legacy Arena update next. Aren't the also spending some money on upgrades to the Exhibit Halls and Concert Hall too? Don't know if it would be exterior upgrades, but at least to the interiors.

What will also be interesting to watch is the private development that unfolds around the new stadium. Once vertical construction starts, I bet there will be a frenzy around there for developers.

Yeah, the entire Uptown area, all the way back to the old hospital is about to experience a boon! I hope to see the area blossom similar to how the Parkside district did after Railroad Park and Regions Field!

Even a coat of paint would give it a subtle update for the better in the interim. It looks so 1991 right now it's comical. Taupe #5 is one of those colors that looks good only on filing cabinets.
